Probably saints, but that was really a takeover. The 50/50 mergers havnt worked out.

Always were only padding because Newcastle and then the dragons didn’t go to super league and they were short one

Oh yeah there was anti Murdoch sentiment. However the Steelers were still a relatively young club. They were only in the comp for 17 seasons. The last four years of their existence was impacted by SL. Sure, other clubs do establish quicker than others, eg, Newcastle Knights.

But anyway, it is what is. I've accepted the Dragons. But more importantly, the younger generation accepts them.

Getting back to the Bears, they are more or less, relocating to Perth. And I can't wait to see them. Exciting times ahead for the game.

In Brisbane, the Lions averaged 48,000 in 2023 – +17% YoY – (including a season high of 80,000), while the Suns managed 22,000 per game (no movement). Games involving neither side rated 26,000, (To be fair the Suns are Gold Coast based, but did struggle at the lower end of the ratings).

Newcastle would’ve supported wherever their club went as would’ve Illawarra

pretty much any fans would’ve followed where their club went

Knights were all but agreed to go to super league until Phil Gould convinced the Johns boys to stay loyal and the club was forced to follow

St George were all set to go till Johnny raper stepped onstage and ripped up a saints jerseys ?

I hated super league with a passion of Balmain had gone over and emerged stand alone I would’ve have cared who else got kicked out of the comp

If they were closest to "making a dollar" it was likely that they had a better flight and accommodation arrangement than The Reds.
I have no idea how manageable The Rams rent agreement was, but weren't they evicted from the Adelaide Oval

A Carlton vs Port Adelaide game draws more viewers in Brisbane than one involving the Gold Coast Suns. Carlton and Port Adelaide draw strong ratings in Melbourne and Adelaide. Suns draw shit ratings eveywhere.

Ch7 are stuck with airing 22 Suns games into Brisbane each year. They would recoup more money by airing any other team.

The Rams drew far bigger crowds than the Reds in 1997. Travel expenses would have hurt the Reds.
