2GB, TripleM and ABC renew Radio rights

Actually, for the last 10-or-so rounds this year 2GB made sure they had a call team ready for both Sunday games and covered both games wherever possible, switching to the one "more in the balance".

Stuff that token gesture.

I'd much prefer to have another station calling the other game in full just like the old days.

Too often this year GB and the ABC called the same game while the other game on at that time was ignored.

Too many games are simply being ignored on radio and the NRL are to blame for allowing it to occur.

Not being someone who listens to RL on the radio I can't pass comment on the quality of the stations chosen but I do have major issues with once again the game selling its rights without a competitive tendering process. No business in its right mind would do such a thing so makes you wonder what is driving the agenda. Whatever it is it clearly isn't in the best interests of the NRL in the long run.

What I want to know is how they never have to face any sustained criticism or questioning from people that count. Every now and then Masters or Gould will write an article, but really, Andrew Voss's campaign to remove f**king corner posts gets more media time than the incompetence (or worse) of David Gallop and the NRL.

"Of course it cheapens the product" Yes, with all that evidence you've supplied. Having never listened to it (you earlier admitted you haven't tuned into them in over 2 years), how would you know what effect it has on the broadcast?

See, that what makes you a complete dickhead Timmy. You jumped all over Feej’s comment and started telling lies about “too expensive” to send a full crew to places like Melbourne and some crap about “specialised monitors”. I don’t have to listen to 2GB to know you are lying
Regardless, you seem to think you know alot about the studio set-up at 2GB despite not having listened to them in that long...
That’s right, I don’t listen to it, but it wouldn’t take much to work out these bullsh*t lies you were spinning about “specialised monitors”. As someone who has Foxsports, I do know that Foxsports offers Viewers Choice with the Saturday 5.30pm game where you can watch any of 3 camera positions. I am not as stupid as you Timmy,

You're full of sh*t somewhere along the line...

You'd be too dumb to catch me Timmy. Tell us again about specialised monitors, too expensive to send a full crew, Ray doesn't often go to the ground on Saturday, how often does he go Timmy? Tell us about the sh*tload of FM stations in central Australia. You like spreadsheets Timmy. What’s the current tally of positive posters for Raaay to negative posters Timmy?

That's right. The NRL don’t want the RL public discussing issues in the game. The want their media partners to present sanitised opinions. Look at NRL On Fox. When was the last time they mentioned expansion or anything about the progression of the game? The grapple tackle or carry over points are all they every get into. Its boring TV.

GM, you're the one claiming that there's no listeners. Back your assertion before rubbishing mine :)

Please point out where I said they have no listeners. 2GB has a certain demographic and they are very successful appealing to that demographic.
The game could have more listeners if they opened the rights up to all the different types of demographics in radioland

Exactly. What 2GB do is perfect for the NRL. The less they talk about the real issues in the game the better for the NRL. The league couldn't give a stuff if GB talk about pelican rooting all day (which they virtually do), as long as they steer clear of the true issues affecting the code.

We all know that if anyone does want to talk footy or some of these real issues they are ridiculed and cut-off.

I couldn't imagine this happening in any other sport.

It's a sad state of affairs.

 You're so unbelievably stupid it's not funny.

I have no problem with them opening up the amount of stations that can call and discuss NRL, but your vendetta against 2GB is pathetic and your above post consists of a plethora of lies.

Only a blinkered fat f**k like yourself would not be able see why the NRL award them the rights every time.

You are their BIGGEST apologist. It's sad really.

Just face it that there are RL fans out there who do not like the situation and will comment on it, especially when another deal has been struck as was the case this week.

I have not commented on the Continuous Call in this thread, just my thoughts on why I think the NRL gives the station the rights everytime.

Oh yay, let's resort to fat insults. You're struggling
And ftr, if you'd actually bothered to read ALL of my posts instead of just the bits that suit you, you'd know I agree that they shouldn't be awarded the rights.

Apologist? They're not f**king bombing civilians or carrying out a Jihad. Find a better word and stop being so dramatic. Your carry on suggests nobody should be allowed to like or enjoy that show, and also that you can say anything you wish about them regardless of a lack of factual basis.

I've said I don't like the situation and I don't like that there was no opening up of the rights. I'm simply a bit frustrated with the attacks on the CCT that aren't based on any level of fact by people who haven't listened to it in the last number of years. I can acknowledge they talk rubbish a lot of the time but to level a complaint that they avoid big issues in RL is a joke and completely untrue.

 Haven't commented on the CC? Right, so:

I just imagined that, eh?

I agree with Brutus everytime I hear the continious call team there on about the size of cadbury milk chocolate...So much for being a RL station.

I'm with the anti-CC people here. I used to listen to it but i just got sick of the songs and sh*t talk. In recent listenings it doesn't seem like anything has changed since I ditched it. Commentary is good though. Still shouldn't mean they're the only ones who get to call it.

Continous Call appeals to the Lowest Common Denominator. As does The Footy Show.

Strange really, since both camps hate each other with a passion.

just to show the difference, today's afl grand final will be broadcast on no fewer than seven (7) radio stations.

And all those stations would've given the code priceless promotion in the weeks leading up.

The NRL just don't get it.

Last night, MMM announced that they were calling the Raiders V Brisbane game from Foxsports. They owned up that it had nothing to do with specialised monitors or any of that crap. It was all to do with the cost with sending the call team to Canberra.
