Kane Richardson bolts into one-day side for injured Mitchell Starc..
RISING South Australian paceman Kane Richardson has shot into Australias one-day side as Mitchell Starc becomes the latest addition to a long injury list.
Left-armer Starc figured in Test series against South Africa and Sri Lanka but has succumbed to calf soreness.
The 23-year-old joins a list of high profile pace grounded by injury including Pat Cummins, James Pattinson and Ryan Harris.
Starc complained of discomfort after Australias convincing win in the Commonwealth Bank Series triumph against Sri Lanka in Melbourne.
Cricket Australia physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said: Mitchell Starc had some mild right calf soreness after the match at the MCG last night. Whilst we are not majorly concerned about it, we have withdrawn him from the game on Sunday as a precaution.
He will be reassessed over the next few days and is a possibility to play next weekend's Commonwealth Bank Series matches against Sri Lanka if his symptoms resolve.
Towering fast bowler Richardson, 21, has 24 wickets at 28 in 16 domesic one-day games. He has played just six first-class games for the Redbacks but could face Sri Lanka in Adelaide tomorrow.
National selector John Inverarity said: Kane has been called in as cover in the squad due to his impressive form in the limited overs formats this season. This provides another great opportunity for a young player as we look to build towards Cricket World Cup in 2015.
