Pleased to see Ross getting respect too. I'm biased, I played against him as a youngster and even then we all knew he would play test cricket. I've never seen a kid so controlled in his batting and so completely composed.

IMO he is in the absolute elite status of NZ bats. His record by NZ standards is phenomenal and we forget how often he held a poor batting team together.

Chatted to a guy on the plane today who played schoolboy cricket with Amla. Said that he can't recall a time that Amla was beaten by a delivery in the nets and he basically scored tons every weekend.

There you go- good performances from Taylor, Neesham and Santner. Not a bad spell from de Grandhomme either.

That was the same as Ross. I fluked getting him out (my one piece of cricketing glory in amongst little else) but he had like a 3 year stint where he didn't get dismissed. In fairness to him he was 10 and I was 13. He was playing for Wairarapa College, before he was at college.

Taylor just has great runs then slumps, bit like Astle used to - much better player of course

I am not 100% sure where to rate him, obviously he's still playing so tough - but Donnelly, Crowe, Turner, Dempster, Sutcliffe - he's in that group somewhere - not as good as Crowe - who might not have been as good as Donnelly

Think he's probably established himself as a legitimately great ODI bat though, he and Neesham were brilliant
