he has scored 2 centuries in his last 12 innings. fact

We can make stats work for or against us I suppose...touché.

Clarke isn't in form at the moment and he needs a score - WE need him to put up a Clarke type score. Granted, he scored back to back 100's to open the Aussie summer vs. an inept England though that in the world of Test cricket, that was a little while back now. Clarke by his high standard is in a small rut and it won't be long before he is back to scoring big scores.

agree Clarke needs a big one, either in this 2nd dig or the 3rd test

epic failure if he doesn't imo, will be scrutinised a lot more if we end up losing the series

In the fourth innings of a Test match Clarke averages 38.65 (4x50s, 1x100); I hope he bucks the trend and lands the big score in this Test. We are going to need it.

That's actually not a bad average in the fourth innings.

Most batsman's average is well down in the 4th innings of a match.

Never thought I'd type this 12 months ago; I feel somewhat still at ease with Steve Smith and Brad Haddin to come in. Mitch is handy with the bat in hand when he wants to be too. If we can navigate this first hour, who knows...?

Most of the spinners we've tried since warne & McGill have been finger spinners.

There's never really been a long term finger spinner in Australian cricket, so that might explain why people don't expect anyone to last.

Tim May? Ashley Mallet? Bruce Yardley?

Actually besides Peter Sleep, Jim Higgs and Bob Holland's couple of tests there weren't too many leggies between Benaud and Warne.

Muirhead looks good. But then Boyce looked a worldbeater in the 20/20 yet he doesn't get the figures in the shield.

Looks like someone forgot to tell the South African public they have the #1 team in the world...barely any crowd on a picture perfect Saturday.

None played more than 40 tests.

May only played 24.

Mallet played tests over 12 years bit was in an out of the team and then came back in 1980 because of world series cricket.

In terms of leggies there was also John Gleeson between benaud & warne.
