Say what you like, but Wright has been dependable this year.

With Wright, and Friend and so far RFM (and of course Mannering, Hoffman, Lillyman and this year Matulino) you know nwhat you're going to get... and that's what the NRL is about, making sure your worst is not too far from your best

Yes, If Wright is arguably the best player in your team, things aren't great - but the real problem is elsehere, why is it that the so-called stars cannot deliver week in week out?? I include Johnson in this, people are lauding him now, but in plenty of games the pack (+ Manu) achieved parity or better and he was missing and the stars out wide f**ked up - we lost, and we were never looking a top 4 team, nor a convincing top 8 team

It's very seldom that I disagree with you JJ, and I'm not here either.

But yeah what you said in the third par is spot on. When Wright is the best player in your side, I guarantee it means a) a loss b) a lack of effort. Same as when Lucky used to get MoM (and I loved Lucky with all my heart). It just meant he tackled his heart out and the rest of them were rubbish. Wright is the 25th most talented player on our roster and should never be MoM. He should be a solid contributor if playing, not the best.

Same goes with our Players of the Year. Look at the years we made the finals, and it's guys like Matulino, Vatuvei - when we bummed out, it was Mannering, Luck etc. The effort men.

Primary reason IMO is that we aren't a well-drilled defensive side. Defense is a holistic thing and our inconsistency stems from an inability to be able to react to what is in front of us, as a whole.

I don't think the real problem is down to individual "stars" not delivering every week. We scored 3 or more tries before SJ got injured in as many games as the Roosters did over the same time period, so the consistency of our attack wasn't the biggest problem.

It's about the whole team being able to communicate in defense, stopping threats early and being able to react to what is unfolding in front of them, even under a lot of fatigue. Maybe then we'll be able to concede less than 3 tries in about two thirds of the games we play (like the Roosters have) instead of conceding four or more tries in over 50% of the games we play (as we've done this season).
