Ice Hockey players have the benefit of not being able to fight, because they're on ice, so the chance of damage isn't all that high, which means there isn't any downside to letting them fight.

Let 6 players in League try to imitate that scenario, on grass, and you'll have serious injuries all over the shop - broken hands, faces, concussions.

If League was half as lax as NHL when it comes to fighting then half the NRL player ranks would be injured right now, with crook hands and broken jaws and eye sockets.

I don't think the "lets be like hockey" advocates quite understand how ineffective and shit punches thrown on ice actually are, through no fight of the players throwing them, but because of the ice skates and ice surface. To think what they do could be replicated on proper ground is a bit naive. Far too dangerous. You only have to look at the last time 2 players were given space to go at it, Steve Price ended up leaving the field on a stretcher.
