The national rugby league side will now be known as the Vodafone Fiji Bati after the Fiji National Rugby League signed a $300,000 sponsorship with Vodafone Fiji this afternoon.

The Sponsorship which is for 3 years will help FNRL host the pre-season tournament which will now be known as the Vodafone Fiji League.

FNRL Secretary Peni Musunamasi while accepting the cheque says that the money will also help prepare the junior Bati team for next years Vodafone International under 18 tournament and help host regular test matches against Tonga, Samoa and the Cook Islands.

Meanwhile Musunamasi with State Minister Rajesh Singh will be taking with them close to $14,000 to the Fiji Bati side in Australia as they prepare for next months World Cup Qualifiers.

Holy crap! Nice one Fiji! $300,000 would go a long way, no, but for all the travel costs involved....

I'd imagine that's Fijian currency but still good. Good work Fiji.

I hope Fiji can make the WC. I expect Samoa to take their place which would be pretty disappointing considering how much work the FNRL are putting into qualifying while Samoa, well who knows what if anything they are doing. Did they even have a comp this year?

This is great news for the game in the Islands. I only hope they use the money wisely.

Also, if Vodafone are now sponsoring the Rugby League team, who is now the sponsor for their Union side. I don't really care but it is a major shift between sports by a global company. Does this mean that RL is getting stronger in Fiji ?

Peni Musanamusi has been around for years plugging away, so he must be one helluva fella/leaguie.

I take my hat off to him....

Congradulations Peni Musanamusi and the FRL. $300,000 fiji dollars will about $250,000 to $260,000 Aussie dollars. Last i heard the Fiji dollar was worth a little less than the kiwi dollar, so deduct another 10% from that for the exchange rate and i'd say my guess is about right. Bloody good money for a developing nation though, i hope they plug most of that money into developing the game there.
