I don't see why Marcus Stoinis shouldn't be given a crack in the number 6 spot,his batting is improving nicely since batting in the top 3 for Victoria,Mitchell Marsh isn't good enough to open the batting or bat at number 3 for his State team so he's obviously a better batsmen than him,and it's not like we would be asking Stoinis to come in and open the batting,he will be at number 6.

If Stoinis fails than so be it but at the end of the day Shaun Marsh and Watto will fail as well so its worth a shot imo.

I think from memory Stoinis averages around 50 or so for his last 15 FC innings,that's pretty good going for a top 3 batsmen,M Marsh would average minus 8 opening the batting for his state.

Tom Moody and Simon O Donnel were much better batsmen than Mitch Marsh and even they were not good enough to be Test players.

From what we have the best batting line up is

1. Rogers
2. Warner
3. Smith
4. S Marsh
5. Clarke
6.?

Six is contentious. I would rather a batsman so Voges but Marsh deserves another go I guess. I'd almost make the call based on the pitch. Bowling wicket then Voges, batting then Marsh.

For all the talk of dropping Clarke it means that either Voges (equally out of form without Clarke's record) or Watto will come into the middle order.

Like he is stuck on the back foot with a ludicrous baseball bat stance. Which means he is going to struggle to come forward against really fast bowling and on bouncy wickets he is going to end up driving on the up.

It brings up an interesting point. Australians moan about how our techniques transfer to England but the reverse is true. English batsman don't look to control the ball when playing a pull shot like Australians do so really good players of the pull shot like cook can get out in Australia. Same with the baseball bat stances English batsman have. They can't come forward as easily.

Yeah, from that point conditions they grow up in play a huge part. Australian pitches have generally good and pretty bounce. Not only is it key to how our batsmen play, but also how our bowlers go about their business (and a big part of why our spinners fail on the sub continent).

Positive from that test - Nevill was excellent in the second innings, fought hard on day two to get us to the next day, somehting we've not had down there for a while. Someone like that in Cardiff and we could've escaped with a draw (given how wet it was on what would've been day 5).

Otherwise, not much. Starc is exactly as he's always been - dangerous every now and again but unable to maintain pressure. Batted well in the second innings though.
