I know we needed 8 or 9 an over, but Elliott was going beautifully all night chipping the ball over the infield, aiming for gaps and getting 2s, 3s and 4s. I got the impression that his final shot was just an attempt to hoick a 6 with no thought for placement, which was not necessary.

jeez, I dunno. We needed 77 off 10 overs and Elliot and McCullum were going well. It wasn't impossible, obviously unlikely with our last recognised bats at the crease, but anything could've happened....Elliot didn't need to hole out like he did.

To be fair Elliot cancelled out Haddin the problem was he had little to no support.
As for holing out, well still needed boundries.
In the end that was the difference, Haddin got some support Elliot did not.
