3rd test match thoughts

It's been a great series.

GB & Ireland have made some terrific progress, while you can't help but admire the "never say die" attitude of the Kangaroos.

A great try to finish the game and a series which has been fantastic.

The quality of play in the test match was fantastic.
I watched the Union last night and the League this morning, and the Union was like watching League in 1953 (not an original thought).
The tri series will have three great sides competing. It's just a pity that the next best in the world is about 70 points behind those three.

As a series, it has been an awesome event! 3 tight matches, a lot of excitement. All round, A+.

From a GB point of view, it would have been a) absolutely heartbreaking to come so damn close so many times, but also b) extremely encouraging for the future! Next year with a new coach and some FRESH YOUNG PLAYERS, they look good for the Tri-Series.

Now that should be a great event, the Tri-Series. Looking forward to that!

Back to the Ashes -- the Kangaroos did good, and from an Aus perspective that was an incredible end to the series -- great try! Lockyer is just breathtaking...

Once again i'm dissapointed with the British finish, clenching defeat from the jaws of victory yet again.

On the up it's the first time we have seen a 3 match series were every test has gone to the wire in a long time. Hopefuly this series will inspire a great tri-nations over the coming years.

For mine if i was a GB selector i would say thanks very much to A.Farrell, B.Mcdermott, T.Newton for your service but we will now look to the youth.

great series however the close score lines is indicative of the understrength australian team.

Sure its good to say they've got a great future but when a team can't even beat the understrength oz team and as vossy said leading within 5 mins of fulltime they have a problem.

Congrats to kimmorley for man of the series. He WAS the best man to replace johns and his performances proves it (althought the 3rd test want so great).

some of these backward clowns think (and i use the expression very loosely) that because tallis, fittler and joey are past their use by date that the aussie team is 2nd rate..
they refuse to give credit to the new blokes coming through.
they think that all is lost if the roos dont win by 80+

yes i do enjoy telling these 1 cellers how they think,,, someone has to.

the tri-series will be great following this tour..

That still doesn't ensure the Aussies would have won the series three nil. In the past when we have had full squads we have only ever managed to win two tests so I think the argument about having 19 players unavailable is purely hypothetical.

I was one who said Kimmorleywould prove his worth again int he representative arena and he was the difference between the two sides IMO.

It was also good to see Sculthorpe finally dig in and have a go. I als think the tri-series will be a cracker next year but the Brits have to rid themsleves of some dead wood. Surely there must have been better options than Barrie McDermott? I thought Ellis and Gleeson went well but the poms missed the penetration of Senior out wide.

The poms certainly have enough class players to win a tri series when you consider a team that has Morley, Sculthorpe, Long, Cunningham, Senior, Radlinski, Fielden, Sinfield, Deacon, Carney, Peacock, Gilmour and the rest. The Kiwi's have shown how to beat Australia and will be extremely hard to beat next year if they manage to get a full side on the field.

Thats very true about it all being hypothetical legend and I don't disagree.

Anyway I was just reading some old news (http://www.nrl.com/news.cfm?ArticleID=7557) over at nrl.com and I have to say for once I agree with Anderson. I think we need to play the Ashes at least every two years. But once here and once over there. That could be a start to a period in time in which international rugby league focuses on its main guns, and throw in a 3 test series against NZ in the middle of the ashes break.

This might be just one step to re-create some interest in international rugby league without going to extreme lengths.

Maybe you're thinking of Phil Bailey, Luke Bailey's the one we're naming and he's probably our best prop this year. Even when Barrett not so good, he's still a step up on Crocker at 5/8. Ryles, Timmins...how many do you want?[/b]

Johns-best player in the world
Bailey-one of the best props in the world
Kennedy-arguably the best back rower in the world
Barrett
Hodges
Lyon
Gasnier
Gidley
Tahu
Ryles
Hindmarsh
Tate

need I go on?

Seriously, if the aussie team wasn't understrengthed, do you serious reckon Darren SMith would;ve been picked and Phil Bailey and Craig Wing would be 1st choice centres? I hardly think so.
Plus to suggest Johns is past his use by date is just plain ignorant.

You kidding? I'm afraid I can't see any progress. It was the same old failures giving us the same old failure. We learned nothing from the Kiwi series last year. If anything it's gone backwards. It's been a shambles.

GB have: been run ragged by a half-crippled half back; blown a 20-8 lead; and thrown away another lead in the dying stages. The selection has been crazy. One kosher winger. No propoer 5/8th. Players have been played out of position. For God's sake, at one point in the 2nd test we had 4 loose forwards on the pitch. Newton is a braindead thug, but we knew that. The young talent who would have given the Aussies a game were not even in the squad.

Kiwis caught up? The performace against Aust mid season suggest otherwise.
