He is a very fine player... but I am wondering why he's not trying to farm the strike a little - surely better for the team for Tino Best to not face most deliveries?

Windies all out for 367. After being 5/86 they would be happy with that.
Chanderpaul not out 122. How underrated is he? 29 tons and an average over 52.

Very underrated, getting close to 40 yrs old and still playing as good as ever.
Been around since 1994 which is donkeys years.

The mysteries of Ross Taylor: Why doesn't he bat at 3 when he is by far their best batsman? And more mysteriously, why is his test average higher than his "first" class average he has batting against mediocre Kiwi grade standard bowlers?

And can he get his 3rd ton in a row.

I think that may come down to timing...

He wasn't thrust in to the team off the back of a trillion first class runs like a Mike Hussey.

NZ tend to take a bit of a gamble on player who may not have the strongest record but they may show talent.

Michael Clarke is similar I think...

And as for the bowling... well you can offset that with much greener wickets our first class players play on...

Kane Williamson is a solid no.3 and the long term option.
Nothing wrong with Taylor at 4.

He was identified early as a talent and given a shot straight to the top before building a good domestic record.

There is nothing mysterious about it at all.

Williamson isn't half the player Taylor is. NZ would be better off Taylor coming in 1 down than 2 down.

Lol what would you know about NZ domestic cricket?

And yes JJ, Chanderpaul never takes charge when he bats with the tail. Criticise me all you like, I think he's a great player, but he's more concerned on boosting his average than boosting the team total.

 Williamson could well become an even better player than Taylor, he's got that much talent and ability.

Anyone who actually understood these batsmen and didn't just look at the numbers would know it.

And he's done it. Brilliant innings batting for almost 5 hours on top of how much he's already done in the previous tests.

Thats right he debut against England when Lara made his 375. It was Chanderpaul's 4th test match. I think he was at the other end when Lara broke the record.

I have been a critic of Taylor, particularly his tendency to get out playing silly shots and not being able to convert starts to decent scores. He has been simply superb this series. Great to see.

We are currently all over the WI. They are 40/4. Boult doing the damage and Anderson picked up Samuels moments ago. Anderson seems to be a Watson type figure- not a frontline bowler, but has a knack of picking up one or two wickets when he's bought on for a short spell.

Wagner's the big disappointment in this series for mine. He's looked slow and not at all threatening.
