Great win by Australia. It's amazing how much talent we have in that side, especially in the backline and I believe it says the world of Inglis' talent when nobody makes a big deal of another classy performance in the green and gold.

I thought our forward pack was soft up the middle but I can't really accuse anybody of a poor performance ( a few quiet ones) and most of them made up for it. I agree with Mr. Angry, I thought Gallen was easily our best forward on the night. However I thought Burgess was the best forward on the field altogether, great performance by the kid and he's only going to get better.

 @ the Gidley haters yet again

Aside from 1 dropped ball he had a very strong game playing in a totally foreign position. He defended well and set up a very nice try for Slater.

Im really not sure what more could have been expected of any bench player, guess some on this forum will overlook just about anything to justify their blind hatred for a player.

very entertaining game i thought. Excellent contest for the first 60, and freakish ability from our backs for the last 20. As everyone expected, the difference were the Aussie backs.

Thurston was outstanding, Lewis was everywhere, and Slater and Inglis put in their usual freakish performance. They were the standouts for me. Gidley as pointless as ever. Don't remember ever noticing White. Gallen made a lot of metres but gave away his usual 2 penalties and some important missed tackles.

Can't wait to see Burgess in the NRL next year. The English were mostly good but lack the fitness to stay in the game. The last 20 mins they were dead on their feet. Somehow England have to get more juniors - the only way this can happen is by Rugby League raising its profile, and of course will always be an uphill battle.

Watched the game, saw the highlights on the news (just now) and looked at the stats.. and I can't make sense of how Thurston got MoTM.
He wasn't even our best half.

Lockyer had more try assists, more line breaks, more tackles and more metres gained. (and more errors..)

I don't think he deserved it but he was ahead of Lockyer to me.

Hell if it wasn't for that intercept Australia would have been in some trouble.

Shaune Briscoe would struggle in Bundy cup here.
He is so so so poor.

Surely they have a better fullback option.
Hasnt Pryce played there ?

Pretty much sums it up for me.

Slater, Inglis and Lockyer are simply three of the finest players I have ever seen. We gave it a good shot for the first hour, but as soon as Shenton got injured it was game over - we saw what happens when you try to play a non-specialist centre against the Australian threequarter line. It's not going to be pretty!

Somehow England have to get more juniors - the only way this can happen is by Rugby League raising its profile, and of course will always be an uphill battle.

What I've seen in this tournament gives me hope. After the dogsh*t we served up in the World Cup, I saw a large number of kids and international debutantes standing up and looking the part.

We're actually making quite good strides in terms of the junior numbers across the country in England. It won't happen overnight, but we're certainly on the right track.

I was also impressed with some of the Welsh kids playing in the parallel tournament. I think they'll be quite a handy team sooner rather than later.

Nope sorry, you can't play that "foreign position" card when you and your ilk are the exact same people who make the claim that Gidley is a utility because he can cover multiple positions, centre amongst them.

If he's a genuine utility, then he should have been able to handle centre without a problem. He was woeful. Luke Lewis is a far better centre than Gidley and should have played there.

On the other hand, if you want to play the "did well for being out of position" card, then there's no way you can claim him to be a utility.

Facts are he's not a utility and any rep bench picked with Gidley on it is essentially a 3 man bench, because he provides absolutely nothing apart from mistakes, selfishness and no skill.

I know you hate the Knights but there was no way he was woeful, he was solid at very worst he got involved, defended strongly and set up a try with a nice kick, he made one error Thurston made about 5 and got MOTM, he was more effective and more of a threat then Hodges was all tournament.

Aside from prop, wing and centre, Gidley has played every position for his club. Name me one player in the world who has played positions 1 - 13 at the top level? No player can say they are familiar with every position on the paddock so expecting Gidley to be an expert in them all is f**king laughable, even coming from you.

And noone has said he "did well for being out of position" either, what was said is he played well despite playing in a unfamiliar position. That's what makes him a good utility, one of only 2 left in the comp, the other being Lewis whom I rate highly but you throw him in at hooker and he would certainly also play well despite being in an unfamiliar position yet most call him a great utility even though he is certainly no expert in the 1-13 either.
