a friend of mine just came back from England and said they saw the Australia v England game advertised heavily on the tube. Pictures of Burgess and Thurston in their kits all over London stations. Does league usually get this much attention in London?

Yeah I saw a facebook post showing pics of it a few weeks back.

Great to see.

They qualify under the rules of pretty much every international sport. Why is it a load of guff? And what exactly is a load of guff?

Guff = nonsense

Aitken and Linnett played for NSW Country only a few months ago. Scotland seem to be a few Australian citizens cobbled together with pommies that aren't good enough to play for England. Laughable.

Massively annoying that England v Australia is played on a Sunday at 2pm. that puts kick-off in Australia at 1am Monday. surely in the interest of maximising audience in the largest market a saturday lunchtime kick-off would have been better and probably even more friendly for attending.

Will not be watching that one unfortunately

Can you imagine having a lunchtime kick off in oz just to appease U.K. Fans?

Who alll qualify under the rules of all international sports, yet other sports aren't criticised or 'laughed at'.

They can't be bothered turning out for tests in Sydney so I don't think they will be too worried in missing the game.
Actually the last couple tests in Sydney have done alright - I went to the last one here and it got a strong crowd despite it being one of those pointless mid season games

Other sports don't let countries that fundamentally don't play their sport to walk into their biggest events.
You obviously haven't seen the RWC, when it was played in Australia I remember one of the teams donating gear to Uruguay because all the players couldn't afford their own equipment and had to miss work for a couple of months to play.Other teams like Romania, Georgia, Namibia etc all played, I think Australia beat Georgia 142-0, there was other games with over 100 scored and heaps with over 50 scored. Yet they still market it as the 3rd biggest event on the planet and nobody questions it.
Rugby League on the other hand manages to make decent competitive teams utilizing the same rules as all the other sports and its not the general public chastising us, but actually our own supporters. People just need to sit back and enjoy a game of footy for a change instead of trying to find ways to criticize, you might surprise yourself and find its actually enjoyable.
