At the SCG were over 3 days, all teams in the NSWRL 1st grade comp played from the weekend from 23rd-25th April 1977.

23rd April 1977: Canterbury 13 Souths 12. Penrith 19 Balmain 19.

24th April 1977: Parramattta 18-Wests 10. St George 25 Norths 8.

25th April 1977: Cronulaa 37 Newtown 10. Easts 20 Manly 0.

Anyone else go to this John Singleton promotion in having all of the teams play at the one venue all weekend?

I remember watching Penrith running out onto the SCG for the very first time. Felt very proud that day.We drew 19 all that day against a very aggressive Balmain side who were at the time leading the comp.Watching Penrith's Kevin Dann scoring was a memory I'll never forget.

Overall,I thought the concept was quite good, although it was never repeated again as the crowds were not as big as anticipated.

Shit crowds in Sydney? I'd say something of the concept has been repeated then.

Actually the Sunday (I assume it was Sunday) crowd was pretty good. The others were deplorable, especially considering the supposedly bigger clubs like st George and Souths were involved. But I suppose Manly, Easts and Cronulla would have been reasonably strong at the time.

Such a concept is similar to Magic in England, which works. I don't think it necessarily makes much sense here but I reckon they should have more double headers at ANZ. When four different clubs use it for home games and we have several back to back games in the schedule it's not ridiculous that they should put them together and try to make the place look slightly less empty than usual.
