And then once the idiot scores his century he blocks the next 3 balls when they only have 1 to win...

A very strong tournament from Ireland in the end. Victory over two full member nations and tested Pakistan, solid against India and really only copped the one hiding against South Africa.

It's a real case of if only for them. Their batting was excellent for the whole tournament, and their spin bowling was high quality. But guys like Mooney and Thompson would be excellent first or second change bowlers in a Watson/Marsh/Faulkner role. They lacked any penetration with the new ball or anyone who could fire up for an over or two and break a partnership - a role that should have been filled by Boyd Rankin and Tim Murtagh. Alas.

Yep, those two quicks would have made a difference...

Obviously the knockouts will provide some real highlights, but the Associate teams provided many wonderful moments in the groups, and the decision to go to 10 teams next time is a disgrace imo

Ireland have been great, the Afghanistan team inspirational, and their quick bowlers remarkably good... Scotland and the UAE have some good talent too... and added to the tournament...

They simply have to be supported, but the ICC (read the "Big 3") are only interested in the $$ not the good of the game - very sad... I posted an article by Mark Reason in the reduction thread, I simply cannot believe that anyone with a greater IQ than locky thinks the Associate teams (and developing the game more globally) are not good for the game

Locky is either trolling or nuts... as is anybody else who thinks the associates don't belong in World Cups.

But regardless, the associates were light years ahead than any previous world cup and that includes UAE and Scotland. Yes those two got pounded a few times but they generally looked like they had the ability to trouble batsmen and bat out fifty overs, none of the full member nations looked like they could cruise past them.

With proper support, there will no longer be a notion of "Eight and the rest"
