I'm not a confident as JJ, I think the kiwis are much better at the shorter version of the game, as thier batsmen seem to lack the ability to bat for long periods of time in test matches.

I think the only thing that will allow them to see day 5 is the inclement weather.

Hopefully I'm wrong and its a good series.

You're certainly right about the frailties in our batting - but in reality I think we usually go pretty well in our conditions against the Indians... and their bowling is kind of what we're used to... Also, I think given we're nice to them, they usually aren't quite so fired up when they play us :D

we've beaten the Indians 1-0 and 2-0 the last two times they've been here, once in very green conditions, and the other time not

jj are u going to the first test?

Not sure, hoping to take my son down for a day, as there's no test in Auckland, and the ODI has sold out... it'll be the last time Dravid and Tendulkar are here, so very tempting

The conditions won't be as seamer friendly as they were last time - but I still reckon in our conditions we'll be a lot more competitive than people think

ya but on those two occasions you had a decent team and our bowling was sh*t.

Dunno that our team is any worse now than it was then - maybe a little...

Your bowling is always ordinary, still is... Sharma and Zaheer are no better than Srinath (he's better than them both) and Nehra or whoever...

In reality they are very much like NZ bowlers, nothing more than brisk in pace, and looking for the pitch to help... NZ struggles against extreme pace, but fast medium bowling in seaming conditions is what we're used to... and as we saw at Eden Park the other night, it only takes the pitch offerring a little help before the Indian lineup looks a little less dominant :D

So what are people thinking for this test

I think the top 8 is set in stone

Guptill
McIntosh
Flynn
Taylor
Ryder
McCullum
Franklin
Vettori

From there, we pick 3 seamers, 1 must be O'Brien, for the other 2, personally I would go with Arnel and Martin. Mills unlucky, but I can't see him being much of a threat, and although I have seen little of Arnel, I believe he gets a bit of bounce which is what we need. I pick Martin, simply because I believe that there will be a bit of swing about, and with him hitting 140km and moving it back in, Sehwag might find that a bit more of a challenge straight up, certainly after seeing a few O'Brien bowled early on the other day

1. Guptill
2. McIntosh
3. Flynn
4. Taylor
5. Ryder
6. Franklin
7. McCullum
8. Vettori
9. O'Brien
10. Patel
11. Martin

If Franklin plays, then we don;t need another seamer. Ryder can bowl 10 overs or so in a day if need be. Patel should play. Mills is unlucky. Arnel is just plain sh*t.
