On that final point PJ it's ironic that Dykes was actually one of Smith's favourites up until about a month ago...then he was benched, then put in reserve grade, then told to change his whole style of play, now he's on the way out!

It's not ironic at all with people like Smith.

I've seen a few of them.

The problem with being one of their yes men is that once there you allways have to be a yes man. They take criticism or divergence of thought from those that are close to them a lot worse than from others.

And once you have been on the inner and find yourslef on the outer it is very hard to get back in.
If we get Dykes I can't see Aitken hanging around behind him and Kimmorley. Can you?

So who would you rather?
Any answer SS?

Well I think Aitken is a long term option but is he ready yet?
Another year in PL could be good for him. Especially if he is still contracted.

I'm with developing Russ in the 5/8 posi. If he can get a few games this year with Kimmorley in the #7 then hopefully we can see a bit more of what he has to offer.

Maybe but doyou think Dykes would come for just one year?

And if not what do we do with him then?

Well if Aitken's good enough then him and Dykes are in competition for the first grade jumper
The other one plays in PL, I dont care who it is

So if Dykes is there then we have a 5/8 for a couple of years but quite possibly lose one of our brightest prospects for a long while.

And if Aitken is there then we have a high paid player in reserves wasting cap space.

Simple solution, leave Dykes where he is/belongs.

Sorry I meant if Aitken is in firsts then we have Dykes in reserves, and I don't think Dykes would be that cheap.

Why are we always looking for the short term fix. We should just bite the bullet and realise that we have a long way to go before we can build a premiership winning team. IMO, the worst thing that could happen is we bring Dykes back to the club, Aitken leaves and becomes a superstar.. We should take a chance on this 19 year old who is a Sharkies through and through and give him a go. I think he is still under contract for a year or so but bringing Dykes back to the club could dishearten him further and from reports I hear that his parents already believe that he is out of favour with Raper, however, it does not appear to be the case as he has been given a shot in recent weeks... Therefore, I believe we should throw our support behind Russ and who knows, he might become a Freddy Fittler one day. Nevertheless, he has a better chance of doing so then Dykes.

duck view

what we have now is Mr BK & Mr Bird (love the name, WAK) as first choice options.

Mr Aitken is THE developing backup for either one of those. The rest have been fill ins, Mr Gallen, Mr sullivan or Mr dumas. No REAL options there

this duck thinks we tend to look more at what we want than what we need. to that end we maybe should consider that above all else that what we need is a performing football side. While we are doing all this development we don't have a performing side. this club can only survive on success.

with the Mr dykes option we get a proven performer who can play 5/8 or even half if Mr BK gets hurt. We'll always have an on field general providing both aren't hurt at the same time. obviouisly one or the other will get hurt from time to time and that's when the young bloke gets his chance

Having Mr Dykes back takes pressure off mr BK and Mr Peach, it also gives us another halves "teacher" for the likes of Mr aitken

Mr PJ, I think Mr Aitken will stay at this club, it's not like he's a walkup start as a halfback anywhere else. The other clubs will develop him just as slowly

If not Mr dykes, our best option is to buy a ready made 5/8/half

look at the market, he's close to being the best of whats available

because we are out of the eight and have a game next week

What?????? If you read the rest of my post miller, then you would see I am talking about the purchase of Dykes for next season.... not next week champ :?

Debateable.

Not worth the risk that a 1st grade spot elsewhere wouldn't come up and he is a 5/8 who happens to be playing halfback at the moment.

look at the market, he's close to being the best of whats available

So if he's any good there should be a scramble for him. Also since Parra missed Orford then they wouldn't be releasing him?

The only way to develope Atkien in NRL is play him there every week. Personaly I prefur Gallen as I think his style of play and defence is more suited to how the game is developing. If we go with Atkien we have to make him a great 5/8 and that will be up to Raper.
