Josh Lewis is much more a 5/8th than a halfback in my opinion
Plays much better there

Future could be
6 Lewis
7 Soward - if soward comes on like hw should
then.

Suttons a 5/8 having a poor season, but def a natural 5/8. Barrett and S Hill are both 5/8's andboth gone as of next season. Anasta coulda been a good 5/8 if he wasnt a fat lazy cutie.

Apart from that, not much.

Ten metre rule may've had an impact. Its seen the teams alot flatter in attack as opposed to 5 metre rule which saw the teams stand deep and really allowed the 5/8 to strut his stuff.

Don't forget old Cliff Lyons, Saab. He was still running around last year too.

Shyte, i dont know how i forgot him. He was a legend at 5/8.
He was involved in a try on the 1990 roo tour, 2nd test, that is one of the best you will ever see. Set it up and finished it off with a try.
Adding Lyons to the list further emphasises we have sweet F all 5/8s compared to the 90s.

In addition to this i cannot believe the morons who are trying to make Gasnier into a 5/8 has has neither the brain or the skills to be successful in the halves, he is a world calss centre... LEAVE HIM THERE!!! Im tired of people f**king around with things which are prefect the way they are! it was obvious with Lockyer's ball playing skills and kicking game he would make a good 5/8 the selectors who think that Gasnier is goin to be as successful as Lockyer have gta lay off the crack!

What you say is oh so true.
Lockyer made the switch, but it was "easier" for him as he had a kicking game, and was involved in alot of attack when he was a fullback fulltime 1997-2003.
Gasnier is a centre plain and simple.

We do have a shortage of 5/8's... but it's a cycle thing.

You go back to the mid 1980's.... NSW would have Steve Roach as one prop... and who else...

Peter Tunks ?
Peter Kelly ?

Qld had Greg Dowling... and who in the mid 80's ?

Brian Neibling ....Sam Backo was still a tard until 1987/8.....?

We always have droughts.

I however have never seen RL as strong in the second row or Fullback postion.

Get used to it, cycles occur in everything.

Qld had no halfbacks 3 years ago... now it looks like Matthew Head will be the best NSW halfback in 2 years....

Yes it is very interesting

seems to be the spot to convert other players into

Ropati - centre turned 5/8

Vagana - centre turned 5/8

Gasnier - centre turned 5/8

Fitzhenry - bench turned 5/8

Faumuina - trialed at 5/8 earlier in the year

Sutton - locked turned 5/8

Greg Eastwood is looking to make a shift to the 5/8 position in the tri - nations, seems more second row material by nature

The thing is there are plenty of good 5/8 skills out there being left untapped. Sure not every person is cut out to coach.... But surely 1 or 2 of 80/90's legends can coach.
