I'd go..

World Club 9s & RLIF 9s every other February..

(ESL) Magic 9s every year

RLEF 9s every august bank holiday on the Sunday & Monday after the challenge cup on the Saturday..

I also believe there's scope for some kind of "summer" 9s circuit around Australia, maybe smaller 8 team versions?...something like this

Perth 9s - 8 nrl teams..4 semi finalists advance to club 9s
Adelaide 9s - the other 8 nrl teams - 4 semi finalists advance to club 9s
World club 9s - 8 nrl teams & 8 teams from around the world..4 English,Catalan,Toronto,NYC and PNG hunters for example..

RLWC should remain an absolutely formal affair (to keen it as the pinnacle of the game instead of turning it into a gimmick)...

The World 9s however NEEDS to be a huge gimmick.

I think this is where the Latin Heat and Africa United can get a run in the big-time and give the teams some profile.

I also wonder if there are more United teams we could run (South East Asia, Central asia, North Americas, etc.) just to geive fans everywhere someone to watch and cheer for...

Mascord is "reporting" the 9s world cup will be Oct/Nov 2019...if that's true..and it's on at the same time as the GB tour and potentially at the same time as 2021 RLWCQs..then that'll do me,we have absolutely clueless dickhead running our sport

If they are amateur players, it wont effect anything?

A "amateur" world 9s is worthless to everyone...who will buy that? Its supposed to be a valuable revenue stream for the RLIF! Without stars no broadcaster, sponsors, fans etc wont bother meaning the RLIF loses money on event...money it can't afford to lose

If it's played over one weekend it's hardly going to matter. I don't see why it would be any longer than that. If anything, the nines in Brisbane, say, followed by Lions 3-5 Lions tests is a pretty good spring schedule.

And even if it is in another location, it will obviously be scheduled for a weekend outside of the tour. So you are only stealing a handful of these players away for one week. And that would only effect 2 of the participating teams...

Having said that, beginning in a location they know it will be a success (Australia) before branching out would be the likely approach.

Why would a 9s tournament go over 2 months?

Hopefully that just means 2 weekends but if they stage it instead of the Lions Tour then that means the full Australian side won't play again until 2020, if they continue with the bullshit year off next year.

It will probably start Friday night and finish on the Sunday.

I hope it’s on a long weekend and is a sat and sun night event,

I wouldn't want any GB players playing in a 9s comp just before a test series!

Am I the only one who thinks 9s is a waste of time?

I would rather them focus on proper 13 a side League than this gimmicky stuff which given the past sevens and Auckland 9s tournament I cant see it having a long term future.

But hay, at least they are trying something and if it drives revenue then I say go for it

9s is good to develop emerging nations

It worked well at U18s

Only lasted one year during the SL War

But saying that I did enjoy the World 7s where 8 countries could test themselves verses 16 NRL teams

But 9s is more RL structured than 7s so NRL clubs would dominate

Should be sixball rugby league. Nines feels NRLish and with six a side the space and pace would be on show. Encourages a passing and skills game instead of five drives the nrl nines seemed to much like tens rugby too many people on the park.

I believe it's been stated WCQ will be in 2019.
I guess a 9s is only a weekend so can be held before or after any 13s matches.
Could be a nice way to end the GB tour or a good hitout for some fringe players before the series starts.
