A 5/8 ... ?

With the increasing rumours that Dykes will be leaving the club, people have been suggesting perhaps we should sign a bargain 5/8.

Reading RLW, I saw Sean Rudder was off contract as he was sacked by Castleford.

Now I don't know what he was like as a player. The only things I know are:

* He's only 25

* He wants to come back to the NRL

* He's aware that he'll have to take a paycut as every NRL team has probably already used up most of their cap.

I highly doubt we'll go after him, but if we did - how would people react?

I am talking more for two years or so, until one of our younger 5/8's is ready to go in Firsts, not a 5 year deal or so.

Rudder was never a great 5'8th, he was made to look a lot better playing outside of Joey Johns. When Joey was out of the side Rudder really struggled. I cannot see him adding much to Parramatta.

Yeah, I couldn't remember much about him.

All I saw was that he is relatively young at 25 and wasn't asking for much.

Maybe instead we can go after Holdsworth?

Haven't seen too much of Holdsworth play, wouldn't be a bad buy from what i've heard though. We kinda need a backup half when injuries occur. Moving Wagon back to 5'8th simply isn't the answer, I can't see Thorman sticking around, he'd be wasting his time.

Morris will be our 5/8. End of story.

If you guys think Wagon is a terrible 5/8th, Rudder brings "terrible" to a whole new low :?

I really don't know that we need a 5/8 - I think we should be looking at a backup hooker! I'm convinced that Morris will start the season as our 5/8 - and if he goes down look for Feliti Mateo to play there.

When playing at 5/8 Rudder makes Wagon look like Lewis, Kenny, Daley and Fittler combined and then some

Morris would be a great 5/8, despite the fact he doesn't want to play there.

Says who?

People assume because we bought Riddell that Morris is suddenly "unhappy". He'l l be happy if we're winning next year even if he's playing fullback. He played 5/8 in 2003 and I don't remember hearing him complaining then.

I don't think the club will release both Thorman & Dykes so we will have plenty of cover for 5/8 or halfback. I can only see one of them being released.

I'm not assuming anything.

He's publicly stated (on Sports Tonight, among other shows and media) that he was signed to the Eels to play hooker, and that's where he wants to play.

I'd imagine that if he was signed as a hooker, and the club goes and signs another one and now tells him, "Right! We signed you to play hooker, so now you'll be playing 5/8," that it would irritate him.

I do hope we keep Dykes.

Apparently, Thorman is a lost cause, as he wants out and wants to return to the Super League where he was a superstar.

in regard to Rudder................No thanks.........!!!!!!!

and it will be Morris or Wagon at 5/8 next year and yes Wagon does look like Wally Lewis compared to Rudder, even John has trouble making Rudder look good

I'll put my head on the chopping block and say Daniel Wagon is a much better option at 5/8 than Rudder.

I was never a fan of Wags at 5/8 (playing as a 2nd lock), but despite what people say about Wags in #6, I think the cold hard fact is that we have been more successful with him there than without (anyone want to do a count of wins/losses with/without waggy playing at 5/8-second lock)

I have no qualms in saying that Corey (Mini-Me) Pearson is a better option in the No. 6 jumper than Sean Rudder. :|

How dare anyone use the "R" word/name in this Parra site.

He is the grubs of all grubs! He steals oxygen better than Kusto!!

Anyone suggesting SR for Parra needs to either check themselves back into the mental assylum or sedate themselves with a shytload of prozac PRONTO!!!

I'd tell him tough. You are not a good option at hooker and if you want to be in this side you will play in the halves.

He simply isn't a good hooker, fortunately for him he is a good half / 5/8.

Dykes is in the same mould and I feel that if we had Dykes playing hooker many people would pick at his game and question the coach for playing him there.

Why is Dykes part of this argument, he plays half back
...at least that's what his jersey says this season? He was meant to be our first string 5-8 when he was signed up.

And maybe Dykesy is a lost cause too, as he wants out and wants to return to the Sharks where he was a superstar?

I think Thorman just wants some game time, instead of being 18th man forever! Over here he was getting a weekly game (though in a crap side) and some rep play too.
