We all acknowledge that there are some serious fundamental structural problems with the team. Our spine is dysfunctional on many levels as follows:
1. Dugan – good player but unfortunately he lacks the skill set required for fullbacks in the modern game; namely being able to pass and create opportunities. Perhaps he is best suited on the wing where he can run that bash and barge rubbish.
2. Widdop – the less said the better.
3. Marshall – I am not sure if I am sad or embarrassed for him. He is truly on old legs.
4. Rein – an honest toiler who just takes too many wrong options.
These players are the custodians of our attack and frankly that is very, very worrying.
However I have come to the conclusion that the real problem lies with the coach. I have supported Mary and I like the bloke but he does appear to be a long way off competent. Worryingly also is that he appears inflexible and pig headed. Surely now is the time to be brave and to throw out the playbook and to give the team the license to attack?
However this would require making decisions on nearly all of those players listed above. Whilst I understand that Shaun Nona is not contracted and is probably not 1st grade fit; his vision and passing game is better than any of the 4 amigos listed above. Do we give young Dufty a run at fullback? Should Milne be given 6 games to show us what he has? Should Kurt Mann be given a go at # 6?
As an aside; whilst it is hard not to have great admiration for Ben Hornby and Dean Young is it best that they are assistant coaches to a novice coach in Mary? Wouldn’t it be better that went to the UK for instance and spent a few years working in different systems before returning?
We need a coach with both pedigree and absolutely no prior allegiance to the Dragons. What a super job Neil Henry is doing at the Gold Coast for example under very difficult circumstances. We need a 1st grade standard coach and a good young half-back. Watch us go if we get these two ingredients right.
A coach, a coach, our kingdom for a coach!

Spot on . Our attack is the worst in the comp and yes we are now one of the easy beats. If we dont make major changes very soon our better players will also look somewhere else to win a comp.We are now going in the same direction we did with price .It was the refs fault or the odd player out, what about saying I cant get the attack going and have played players out of position

Lafai has joined Marshall on my "never to play FG again" list. I've seen enough of them, time to move them on.
IMO nothing significant is going to change until/if this Bruce Gordon takeover happens. Until then, we are just wasting our time.

We are a dying breed, Saints. Hopeless coaching, lacking money, playing home grounds at other home grounds, decrepit management. We will die off very soon unless... We run the shop like 2016.

Exactly. Need people power to get rid of this myth of a coach.Time to pound them with emails and social media. They boys club doesn't like noise and its time to ramp it up St george Illawarra fans.

Whilst the likes of the great Sean O'Connor, who publicly stated that McGregor would be one of the great coaches, even before the selection process (that was a joke) was complete and Bob Millward, who must be tipping 100....while these sorts of guys hang on for dear life, and that's all it is about for them keeping the perks and power, and not giving a damn about the club, we are in for a long miserable ride.....those sorts of blokes will never admit they've made an error in judgement, they're not man enough

Lol what a joke....To imply Millward and O Conner control some balance of power and make decisions on coaches and players etc just show how clueless you are... Obvious you have issues with our merged entity.. It maybe more productive if you vented your frustrations on the the true decisions makers at the club...

ie.. Peter Doust and his vintage faceless cronies who have been pulling the wrong strings for years.....16 years into this merger Saints should be an nrl powerhouse....

No Thanks. They only Smith I would take is Cameron. Brian & Tony have done their dash at our club. 1 as a coach and 1 as a player. No success there.

Dear Paul,

Completion rates from the Dragons v Bulldogs game:

Dragons 28/35 = 80%
Bulldogs 29/40 = 72.5%

I dont think he used the old "completion rate" line after this one. The referee and bunker were the excuse du jour this week.

You're obviously a Sean O'Connor fan and also an Illawarra crony who's more than happy with the status quo. Your one of the faceless pricks we don't need supporting the club

Looks like the rorters have swooped in and we take Keary from our grasp. We will not attract a decent player to this club with the current coach and administration. Very disappointing to miss another target. I really hope the powers that be have a master plan?
