A Good Idea

Just thought i'd let you guys know that the Roosters this weekend have a promotion for the Manly game and would like to see 20,000 there. As part of this promotion, which even our sponsors are getting behind, all kids under 16 are admitted free. I really hope more clubs start doing things like this ... especially for those Sydney clubs at larger stadiums. I hope it works and works well :)

It'd be great to see larger crowds, at the expense of money-making (although clubs im sure can still make just as much in other ways at the ground if they are smart).

They should also start to look at lowering ticket prices. Most families are doing it tougher today, so thats why so many are staying away. But free entrance to kids is great, lets have more of it.

Here's the link for the promotion if you are interested

Why would anyone want to see the roosters unless Willie gets smashed.

The initative was started by Canterbury last week.

Well, the initiative was actually started by the Knights a while ago when we started "Kids Free Day". You're all copying us

Yeah thats great to see too ... but you guys never have much trouble filling your ground so you are lucky in that respect. Im talking mainly about the clubs at the larger stadiums ... they should do it more often.

Poor old people have to pay while little sh*ts get in for free

Your main drawcard Willie has to play for the little kiddies, they're the same age

Great idea.

From the Sunday Roast yesterday, I think a discount for people wearing their teams colours would also be great in attracting crowds.

Good Idea.... BUT don't you think the Roosters/Manly game should get more than 20,000 without the promotion considering both are top 4 sides??

I think it is a great idea.

I took 5 kids (4 of them aged between 15 and 7 and 1 under 4) to ANZ on Sunday and it cost me in excess of $200 when including train fare return to the Central Coast.

I took packets of Chips and fruit juice poppers to the game for them all and bought them either a Pie or a bucket of Hot Chips to go with this and myself 3 beers from Half Time in U/20's to Full time of the Main Game.

While i get to as many games as i can, the simple fact is the cost is prohibitive to take all 5 kids every time. The kids absolutely love the atmosphere and would go every week if they could.

These kids are the future supporters of Rugby League and when i was their age we religiously attended games which made me a life time supporter of the game, i think any promotion that encourages kids to grow their love for real life entertainment should be utilised as much as possible.

Steelers did it during the SL days... desperate times call for...

But definately a good idea at the big stadiums. The NRL and clubs should be bending over backwards to see regular crowds of 30,000 plus. Then it becomes a habbit.

I liked Gould's idea of a totally free game(s) at ANZ. He said we could then assess the health of the game, would be in trouble with less than 40,000. When you've got them in the gate, push memberships, promotions etc down their throats!

Who knows we may get 30k ... the last time we gave away free tickets we got 35k to a monday night game. I remember at that time me and my mates decided an extra drink or two wouldnt cost us much, but we ended up in the corners where nobody wants to sit lol.

Excellent post. If we lowered costs on ticket prices (even halved the prices) the clubs would probably still get as much money as most likely many more people will attend. The crowds could quite possibly go close to doubling. Then as Man of Steel mentioned, the clubs could throw more promotions and memberships at people while they were in the ground, and thus maybe make even more money while not hurting the battlers who are doing it tough.

Clubs need to start thinking outside the square and i reckon that sort of thing is a good start.
