a Grand Final every decade

You know that if we don’t make the grand final this year next year, that will give McGregor the perfect excuse in 2021..

“These losses are not my fault. It is a new chapter for the club and I believe missing the grand final last decade has thrown the players off their game. In addition it’s a position no other coach at the dragons has ever had to face, so you can’t exepct to be able to coach against something like that.”

the streak ended at the end of 2009. when we didn't make a grand final from 2000-2009 we were the first team to win a comp this decade 2010.

Bump.

Not looking great. This incredible record looks set to fall.
There was a time, not that long ago, when not making the semis (top 5) was seen as a failure.

In the 80s, Roy Masters even took the courageous step of dropping first graders en-masse in favour of reserve graders to try and give us a chance of making the top 5.

It worked. In fact, all three grades made the semis that year with the thirds winning the premiership, laying the foundation for a first grade grand final appearance in 1985.

Back then the Club cared about things like records and pride.

It's funny, we used to look back on the 80s as a decade of failure, but it is nothing compared to what we see now.

No mate, the club started in first grade in 1921, so 1930 was the last year of the first decade. Therefore, 2010 was the last year of ninth decade.

We are currently in our 10th decade, and have until 2020 to keep that record intact. This obviously never crossed anyone's mind on the board when they extended McGregor's contract.

Rugby League is in a worse place than ever because the people running the game couldn't give a toss about the fans.
Crowds are non-existent and they don't care. I watched about 10 minutes of Raiders vs Dogs on Saturday night. At ANZ stadium. 7K people. I think I heard a person open a packet of chips mid game, worst atmosphere ever.
Why put the 1 origin affected game on at ANZ at 730pm on a cold Saturday night?
Knowing that they'd get nobody there why not kick off at 3pm or 4pm and throw the gates open to all children under 15?
Grand Final is another example. EVERYONE wants it at 3pm like the old days but despite the noise they just play it at night, more money.
I respect the AFL for sticking with the day game.
Sorry for the random tangent, I just saw 80s and wanted to rant about how shit right now is.

Does anyone realistically think we are a hope of making a grand final anytime soon? Do we believe making grand finals is even seen as a goal for the club?

No. And no.

Even though the new CEO (can't bring myself to even mention his name anymore) considers his fellow imposter the right man for the right time.

Well that shows you just how bad things truly are for the Dragons . Here I was reading the posts believing that they were written today whereas in reality it has been 3 long years ago AND NOTHING HAS CHANGED in all that time .

FMD, didn't even notice it was an old thread. Indeed nothing had changed, our board is an utter disgrace.

how idiotic to suggest that the club might not even want to win a GRAND FINAL . i have heard it all now .
I honestly believe the priorities are as below:
1. Secure positions and careers as a matter of top priority.
2. Make sure the spin is there to cover any mistakes/problems.
3. Mary's favourites have to be protected.
4. Millward's inability to bring home difficult deals is not to be mentioned.
5. Don't talk about TPA because we don't have the time to organise such unimportant things.

I guess I shouldn’t point out that a specific decade ends with a year ending with zero i.e. the first decade of the 21st century finished in 2010:

Oh for f**ks sake.

When counting to 10, do you start at zero or one?

Personally, I begin with the latter.

The other thing to consider is that there was never a “year zero” with the Gregorian calendar. Therefore, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 represents the first decade of the 21st century.

It’s a fair point despite your protestations.

There are two ways of describing a decade, y’know.

Either a specific ten year period (as per the link you’ve provided) or a period of time often referred to as an era, such as the 1920s.

Thanks for your enquiry and the opportunity of highlighting your stupidity once more.

Have you worked out that red and black are two colours yet?

You obviously have no idea what my “protestations” are.

Sit down. Have a boags. And count decades whatever way you want.

There’s no need to be so salty.
