Could an NRL rule expert help me with this scenario:
The opposition is attacking on the 20m line and puts through a grubber.
Dufty recovers on the 1m but is flat footed and he knows he will be bundled into the in-goal by the oncoming defenders.
So, he throws the ball hard backwards at the goalpost. The ball bounces, and sails forward above the heads of the oncoming defenders.
The ball lands in the hands of Widdop who races away to score a try.
Should the ref award the try or award a penalty for Widdop being offside?
