Question, If nathan Brown was still coach, and coaching this mob we have now, weyman, boyd, smith, costigan etc etc, do you think we would be playing the way we are now? do you think smith and costigans defence would be any different under brown? would boyd be playing sh*tter than how he is playing now? would weyman be less destructive?

Please answer honestly, i 4 one would love to see what brown could do with the players we have now...

Your Opinions????

Do you remember what Brown did with our side in 05,06 and we had the hottest team on paper. That should answer any questions in my honest opinion.

Our defence and attitude would not be the same it is now. Might be abit more flash in attack but make alot more errors and stupid plays

I agreed with what is said , even im a brownie supporter i feel the players wouldnt executed his plans to what he wanted, hence the dragons find them selves in trouble

i doubt we'd be going as well if we had brown. Benny has played the key role in turning this team from choirboys to arguably the most feared in the comp. with brown we probably would have lost 3 or all 4 of our first games.

I often wonder if and how my life may be different today if I actually spoke more than two words to the girl I had a crazy crush on in year 4, instead of shrinking away like a terrified, timid titmouse. Like in that Simpsons episode where Homer goes back in time, sits on a lizard, zips back to the present and it's raining donuts. It's the butterfly effect isn't it. Would it be raining donuts? I'm not even a big donut fan tbh, I tend to prefer biscuits. Who doesn't love a Scotch Finger.

I think the main difference between the Dragons is conditioning and attitude. Not that the attitude was terrible before but the lapses are now few and far between.

I don't think Weyman would be as good simply because I don't think he would have been as fit as he is now but Brown would have got something out of him.

Smith and Costigan's defence has always been good. Bennett has never been able to consistently get the best out of Costigan so jury's out on that one.

Boyd wouldn't have been used as well as he would have been put at centre, I think. That's not to say Brown couldn't get much out of him but Bennett was always going to get the most out of Boyd

On another note, Brown left Bennett with very good foundations. He didn't have to rebuild the team as such, the makings of a great side was already there he just had to get it all together; just build on what we already had, fix a weakness here or there and now look at how we're going.

Conditioning under Jeremy Hickman (sp.) is certainly a positive but I believe that it goes deeper than that.
1. I’m told that nobody really knew where they stood under Brown. Everybody was doing great and that he had trouble communicating, particularly to senior players
2. Bennett seems to have a far greater understanding of team balance than Browny or any of us for that matter. He saw the problem with Sowie’s exposure in defence and fixed it. He replaced Coops with Costigan or Creagh against Hodges and it worked. With Browny we’d go “what the hell is he doing” and we’d be right. With Benny we say the same and the next Monday we understand why and agree with his genius
3. Benny has the player’s respect and it goes beyond his record. It’s the way that he treats them. Just look how any of us feel about him and the way that we, with rightful humility, defer to his judgement
4. Bennett is engendering pride and a sense of camaraderie, not seen I suspect since the days of Bath’s babes.

Browny would IMO have had little success with our current line up and who would have blamed him with “losers like” (let’s not name them) “what could you expect” Bennett brings out the best in those with whom his is charged. He is a great coach. He is a noble man.

Like mentioned, the players lsited wouldn't have come to the dragons under Brown. I'm a big fan of his, but I can see that he didn't have the pulling power to attract decent players.

If he did manage to get them, I doubt the team as a whole would have the same pride and attitude they have under Uncle Wayne.

For eg - you've gotta wonder what would have happened if at half time against the Bronco's, Brown had told Dell he'd be hooked if he didn't run straight. Would Dell have responded? He sure as hell responded to Bennett saying it...

Yesterday is history,
Tomorrow is a mystery,
Benny is here,
Brownie can cheer,
The Saints are a firing ,
The opposition is tiring.
Who gives a sh*t,
Benny is a hit.
Leave it at that.
This subject is now old hat.

Cheers LANCELOT :D

Firstly, personality wise I liked Brownie, but in reality we would not have our 'current' team if Brown was coach.

Secondly our club has needed a huge attitude adjustment for well over 20 years. Bennett is about the only current person who could bring that attitude change to our club. Our current stance is because of what Bennett has achieved thus far.

It's finally great we have someone from outside our club being able to come in with a fresh outsider's view and clean up the joint.

Simple as this Brown was thrown in the deep end as far as coaching went and he drowned in that water. I have no dout with where he is now he will hone his coaching skills and be a far better coach. I'd like to see him do this year and next year in England and hopefully bag a premiership, Then come back to the Dragons as co coach with bennett in 2011 then take the reins back of the dragons in 2012.
If brown was still coach of the Dragons now no, they would not be where they are on the table because it would be a totally different team.

For years (pretty much the whole joint venture, aside from the back half of '99) it seemed like our players didn't want to play FOR each other. You could almost read the attitude - 'I don't need to put in 110%, I've got Ryles, Gasnier, Cooper, Bailey, etc etc on the park with me'.

Now we're a no frills team playing the toughest game I've seen from the Saints since the early '90s. Loving it!

First of all, if brownie was still coaching saints, do you think we would have players like Boyd, smith, Weyman, Pridis...

I think bennett has strengthened the entire teams attitude, defence and has really improved on their fitness. Just looking at the way they chase a kick, or even complete a set and move deep into the oppositions half is something that was around only once in a while under the rein of brown.

In my opinion, no. without bennett i dont think st george would be at the top of the ladder at this point in the season.
