Adam Reynolds says there is plenty of temptation to join Cronulla and he has a lot of respect for Craig Fitzgibbon, whom he met this week and knows from their time together at NSW Origin camp.
As legendary No.7s Andrew Johns and Johnathan Thurston expressed disbelief that Souths were willing to let their captain leave, Reynolds told the
Herald about his midweek catch-up with the incoming Sharks coach.
“I think ‘Fitzy’ is a great coach already, he’s been in a great system at the Roosters and they’ve had success - he will be a fantastic head coach,” Reynolds said after
Souths’ 34-20 victory over the Raiders on Thursday.
“I can’t go into too much detail. We had a brief chat. We met face to face.
“I’ve worked with him in the past at Origin and formed a good relationship with him. I have a lot of respect for him. He says all the right things.
“You have to be tempted [by him]. It might be my only offer. It’s not about the money. It’s never been about the money. Souths can only offer me one year and said they can’t guarantee me that, if they sign me next year, I’ll get another year [in 2023].
“Security is a big thing for me. One-year or a three-year deal? There’s a big difference.”
There have been reports this week about Cronulla preparing to offer Reynolds a three-year deal worth about $2.4 million. Souths are refusing to budge on their one-year extension.
The Courier-Mail reported on Friday the Broncos were not giving up hope and coach Kevin Walters would fly to Sydney on the weekend to convince Reynolds to take up their three-year deal, which included the captaincy.
