To those of you who play guitar. What do you think is better for a live performance. Using a pick of finger picking? Let's say that the music played ranges in many styles.

Different players have their own style, and TBH I think either works.. depending on who it is.

Personally, I'm a finger-picker. Never ever ever been one to play with a pick, even when I was learning, so I've developed my own style that way.

You're such a weak, stale streak of p*ss you know that?

Ron disagrees with you. Get over it.

I however, play with a pick.

I haven't been learning that long, but I feel it depends on the song and the artist's choice/preference. Brian May uses both styles live. For the majority of the songs, he'll play using his sixpence coin (something he's used since he was a teenager - now a trademark of his), but for songs like 'Love Of My Life', he uses finger-picking.

Whatever feels good, go for it!

When you have a pick you still have three fingers to finger pick with.

Takes some serious effort to coordiante an equal sound from the pick and fingers. I find the pick is about twice the volume than using my fingers.

Yes but they're very different feels so it's really each to their own. I prefer to use my fingers because that's what I've been learning with. A pick feels a bit weird to me, but others wouold say the opposite obviously.

Either way I'm still sh*t - only about as good as John Frusciante ........

Guitarist should use a pick, any reasonable lead part needs a pick to get your sound and style across. The stuff i play you cannot play unless for a pick, otherwise the sound is muffles and muted and generally ineffective

Then why are you asking for advice to see whether you need to use a pick:lol:

I didn't ask for advice, I asked for opinions and preferences of other guitarists, sh*tface.
