WESTS Tigers utility Daniel Fitzhenry has re-signed with the NRL club for two more seasons.

Fitzhenry knocked back several English Super League clubs to remain with the NRL premier.

"He's got utility value at wing, fullback and centre," Tigers coach Tim Sheens said. "He's also played a bit of nine and a bit of six for me ... in a long season you need utility players. Although he's a good finisher, he's got other values for us, he's a great character in the club."

Fitzhenry, said he was pleased to extend his stay with the club.

"I came to terms today, I'm staying at the club and I'm very happy," he said. There was a bit of interest but I only really wanted to stay here."

Fitzhenry, 26, has played a number of positions for Wests Tigers this season, including filling in at pivot for injured Benji Marshall, but he said he preferred to plays on the wing.

"I'm quite happy on the wing at the moment, but if they need me I'll go in," he said. "It's up to the coach what's best for the team. I like (five-eighth) but I find it difficult to go in there for one or two games and come back out. I'm just starting to get used to playing on the wing so I'm happy to stay out there."

Fitzhenry is a decent, cheap utility player with a lot of NRL experience, including grand final experience. We're certainly better off re-signing him than dropping him and going out and buying another average squad player from somewhere else. And he's obviously a very popular bloke at the club - in a year where a few very important figures will be heading elsewhere its important to keep blokes like him around.

I'd be happier with the signing if sheens wasn't talking up his utility value. Its not really valuable being able to play a heap of positions if the only one you can play to first grade standard is wing!

If we could have it written into his contract that he will NEVER play 5/8th, centre or fullback again things I'd sleep a lot better.
