AAMI Stadium seating/crowd position

This might be something for the Melbourne Storm forum, but i'll see if I can get an answer in here...

Watching the Storm Raiders replay tonight, I noticed that a lot of the crowd sit in the stands behind the goal posts, instead of the the stands to the sides. Is this possibly because of the influence of AFL? In that regard, I mean that with AFL, the best seats/the supporter groups sit behind the goal posts?

nope, it's because the cheap seats are behind the goalposts at AAMI...

so naturally they'll sell out first...

The main GA areas - both for ticket sales & Storm memberships - are situated at either end. It may be a carry-over from AFL fans, but I wouldn't know. I prefer to sit in the South End, myself, and used to stand in a similar position when we played at Olympic Park. The view is actually pretty good, with decent elevation save for the fron 5-10 rows, and watching a length of the field try heading either towards, or away from, you at AAMI Park is really quite fun.

I should also note that the sides tend to fill up reasonably well, too, but usually in the lower stands, and only one side is visible on tv. The top tiers on either side tend only to fill when the ground is at capacity, and sometimes only one side of the stand (often the one not on TV) is opened at the top tier.

AAMI is a fantastic stadium, hardly a bad seat in the house. Even the upper tier still feels close to the action and the end seats still have great views.

For reference - what Ian was saying - AAMI Stadium is in Adelaide.

AAMI Park is the Melbourne rectangular stadium.

Whilst it is true AFL supporters tend to sit at the ends of the grounds (Never been sure why) - It's simply that the sideline seats can be sold more that deems behind the goal lines to the GA areas.

But yes, the exact reason why those areas fill up is that they are the cheaper seats. I won't say seats themselves are cheap at $30 bucks a pop. Given GA has gone up $3 this year, the Storm are doing bloody well on their crowds.

Cat 1 seats $50 which is all middle area. Cat 2 $40 an starts about 5m from try line.
GA behind either end.. Like $20 bucks or something. $50 for family ticket.
Hard to go past that price.

Good view from there. Watching slater diffuse bombs makes sitting behind the posts pretty awesome.
Seeing what he does behind play is good value.

Yeah the poms call it a Terrace or something, they always seem to pack out those areas first.

Maybe one or two hopefully read this and tell us what the go is, they may be just like our victorian cousins in that regard because of soccer?

Was $30 last Saturday night to sit in GA mate.

Ridiculous prices in comparison to certain other sports that dominate in this town. Wish the NRL would look in subsidising somewhat in expansion areas the way the AFL does.
