Aaron Moule signs for Widnes in England

MOULE MUSCLES IN
Widnes Vikings have announced the signing of top Australian centre Aaron Moule in what is one of Super League's most significant captures from the Australian NRL.
Moule was top try scorer with Melbourne Storm in 2001 and 2002, a season which saw him finish third in the NRL try scoring list, and tasted the Grand Final and World Club Challenge under then coach Chris Anderson.
But after a bout of the groin complaint osteitis pubis - and the success of a number of outside businesses - Moule sensationally quit rugby league in April this year.
Reports suggest that Moule was on the verge of selection for Queensland's State of Origin side at the time of his retirement and many pundits believe he was a obvious candidate to fill the problem right centre position with the current touring Kangaroos.
The player has received extensive treatment from the medical team at Collingwood Aussie Rules club and six months on has been given the all-clear to resume his playing career.
"When we discovered that a player of Aaron's ability was available we moved quickly to secure his signature," said media manager Andrew Kirchin.
"There will be plenty of other coaches in the rugby league world envious of Widnes Vikings today because Aaron is a quality centre who is at the top of his game, not on the downward slope.
"I have spoken to him at great length in the past few days and he is excited
about the new challenge and the new life that lies ahead of him."
Moule will join up with his new teammates when the Vikings arrive in Sydney on January 12 for pre-season training.

I'm disappointed Aaron's not with the Storm anymore.

You can't compare his actions to what that mercenary Leyshon did though.

At least Mouley didn't slander the club in the presses & he was in "retirement" longer than Leyshon.

Moule's been good for the Storm & I wish him well for the future.

I wish him all the best and look forward to him playing with Widnes except when he comes up against Bradford ;-)

This move definitely surprises me, but I have nothing against him. He was sick of footy and dealing with injuries and wanted to do some business course I understand. That obviously must not have gone too well for him. Either that or he's just after a change of lifestyle. Good luck to him.

You know Peter Sharp called us "overachievers" before Manly came to OP.

So obviously JohnRibot forgave him for that comment.

Good luck to him I suppose, although I would much rather see him in purple. It's a shame to see so many quality ex-stormers running around at different clubs. Obviously the pay that he would be getting over there wouldn't compare to what he would have got next year in Melbourne though.

i thought he signed a contract saying if he was to play again he had to do so with storm or does that not count when going overseas?

But the Storm were "overacheivers" in 2003. No one in they're wildest dreams would of thought the Storm with so many key injuries would finish as high as they did.

With the side they had, they over acheived big time, that's not a bad thing though.

Thats is defintly dissapointing, especially the way he left.

I don't think that its fair on Melbourne that two of their more favoured players "retired" only to sign with another team.

I'm starting to think that this is something the NRL needs to look into. There seems to be a spate of player 'retiring' then coming out of the woodwork for more money. It all has to do with money. I think the way it works is that if a player 'retires' then they are entitled to a certain percentage of the remainder of their contract rather than if they sign up with another club immediately.

I don't think it would be overzealous of the clubs to put a little condition in the contracts prohibiting players who 'retire' to play for other clubs for a period of time.
