MOULE MUSCLES IN
Widnes Vikings have announced the signing of top Australian centre Aaron Moule in what is one of Super League's most significant captures from the Australian NRL.
Moule was top try scorer with Melbourne Storm in 2001 and 2002, a season which saw him finish third in the NRL try scoring list, and tasted the Grand Final and World Club Challenge under then coach Chris Anderson.
But after a bout of the groin complaint osteitis pubis - and the success of a number of outside businesses - Moule sensationally quit rugby league in April this year.
Reports suggest that Moule was on the verge of selection for Queensland's State of Origin side at the time of his retirement and many pundits believe he was a obvious candidate to fill the problem right centre position with the current touring Kangaroos.
The player has received extensive treatment from the medical team at Collingwood Aussie Rules club and six months on has been given the all-clear to resume his playing career.
"When we discovered that a player of Aaron's ability was available we moved quickly to secure his signature," said media manager Andrew Kirchin.
"There will be plenty of other coaches in the rugby league world envious of Widnes Vikings today because Aaron is a quality centre who is at the top of his game, not on the downward slope.
"I have spoken to him at great length in the past few days and he is excited
about the new challenge and the new life that lies ahead of him."
Moule will join up with his new teammates when the Vikings arrive in Sydney on January 12 for pre-season training.
