For those who may not know, this game is on live in the Southern States on ABC2 and then replayed at 11pm on analogue ABC. Not sure about the northern states. Personally, I am looking forward to seeing young Tambling run out and whether the kid has put on any extra weight/fitness. Should be an entertaining game.

Was quite dissapointed to read this morning that the All Stars are without Franklin because of a 'knee injury' - I've seen no sign of any such issue in training reports thus far?

I can understand the Swans not being prepared to help promote the game in NT and the Indigenous communites, being the souless homo club that they are, I mean, when the VFL/AFL and the Victorian clubs have propped you up for 25 years, why would you want to return the favour and help promote the game in other markets?

But why are Hawthorn not allowing Buddy to go up there and play?

Very very dissapointing from a club I would have expected better from.

(Not trolling either, i am actually dissapointed in this)

The All Stars could have had Richie on one HFF and Buddy on the other ;-)

Dead set disgrace that Goodes and O'Locklin are not playing. Whoever selected the sides must have a long hard look at themseleves. You have a dual Brownlow medalist not playing and instead you play a nuffie rookie player from the Kangaroos!

Blame the Swans and their indecent request that poor Goodes only play 5 minute quarters.

Horse sh*t. It cheapens the event for those in the NT. They deserve to be able to watch 2 teams have a fair crack at it.

Last time I checked though Locky, there were people capable of palying the game other than those 'superstars' whose wagon the media chooses to push.

Spectators want to see superstars. At the very least Goodes should have been slected, as he is 10 times better than any other player in the side! You recon some yobbo rookie will give you more than 5 quality minutes! You are kidding yourself!

Actually I want to see football played with some heart, something you wouldn't see from any of the show ponies who have pulled out.

& again, not everyone in the world buys into the media hype over 'superstars'

Friday night mate.

Not sure on exact line ups, I know Richie and AK are playing for the AS from us and I think 1 Hawthorn player.

So some neville Yobbo wo is on the Rookie list at the Kangaroos is better than a 2 time Brownlow Medalist! The crowd wouldn't even know the yobbo's name- they would know Goodes!

I agree with Craig.

If these games are going to be a viable part of the preseason fixture then unilateral agreement should be sought from all clubs regarding player participation.

I can understand clubs being apprehensive about risking players, but asuming the ground has been adjudged as reasonably safe, then they should release players for it.

As was shown (not for the first time) by big Max Bailey in January, players are at risk even during training sessions.

If a bad injury is going to happen, its going to happen.

What is the go with Buddy though Kev? Is he actually injured or have Hawthorn pulled him for no reason?

Chance Batemen I think is playing? So it's not as if the club is against the concept?

I'm not sure that they are overly in favour of the concept.

They did initially release Williams, Bateman & Franklin to play, but now none of them will be.

Bateman is probably fair enough, following his car accident, and I believe that Williams has been on a lighter training schedule, but I doubt there's a good reason for Franklin missing.

Scratch what I said earlier. If anyone wants to watch they will need to do so via ABC2

The 11pm replay is NT only :(

essendon won easily....which wasnt surprising given the size difference of the 2 teams

even Chris Egan (a skinny, boney HFF/wing) had a stint at CHB and FB on big scott lucas

Franklin apparently played in an antra-club yesterday.

If the AFL wants to use the game as a promotional tool they need to start fining clubs who don't release their players.

Otherwise scrap the idea altogether.

Agreed.

At this stage its not viewed as anything more than a colourful exhibition game by clubs.

Hardly surprising that Hawthorn would choose to have all players on deck for a multi-day visit to Tasmania (incorporating match, community camp and sponsor functions) rather than have some players competing in the Indigenous game.

If the AFL wants more then they should oversee the lead-up to the game, including putting team members into a camp before the game and having unbiased medicos ruling on player fitness levels.
