im frustrated as all f**k and am about to go on a killing spree. How the hell do you add subtitles to a vdieo clip (avi) file? ive found a ton of links through google but they are all bullsh*t or waaaay to complicated to understand.

So does anyone know how to do it? the subtitle file is a .SRT file. all i want to do is add it to the video file so i can watch it with the subtitles....surely its been done before!!!

open Windows Movie Maker then click Import Video, then click Make titles or credits. It's very easy.

If you don't have movie make i think it's pretty easy to get, but if worse comes to worse you could send me the vid and the subtitles you want put in etc and i don't mind doing it for you then sending it back to you. Let me know how it goes.

just to clarify. the vid is a movie, a swedish movie or somesh*t and i want to put the english subtitles over it.

in windows movie maker when i press make titles or credits it has a text box to write the text in but doesnt have an option to add the subtitles file.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by subtitles file. But it should be easy to do in movie maker, all you'll have to do is split each clip/scene each time you want a different set of subtitles in. It's easy when you can show someone in person, but it's a bit harder to explain over the net, so sorry if you're still not sure.

What's the file extension for the subtitle's file? .srt or .sub? If it is then just keep it in the same folder as the movie file (the .avi or .mkv) and play the movie using Media Player Classic or VLC or similar. It'll automatically load the subtitle file.

yeah the subtitle file is .SRT and the vid is .AVI.

i found a program called dvd flick, it allows you to burn the video clip with the subtitles....so ill just do that and see how it goes.

Thanks for the help guys.

Search google for the phrase "hardcode subtitles to avi", there are a tonne of programs out there to do it for you, or if you can hook your PC up to the telly use VLC or similar which can display subtitles from an .srt file. With the right addons even windows media player can support subtitles.

I've done it before, co-incidentally with the same movie, using DVDSanta - one of many avi to dvd conversion programs that can do the job.
