Adelaide Oval upgrades in style

Article from:

DETAILS of the Adelaide Oval's long-awaited western grandstand have finally been revealed.
The $95 million project will increase the venue's capacity from 30,000 to 36,000 and include major upgrades to player and spectator facilities.
The oval's familiar short square boundaries and deep pockets will be reshaped, bringing fans in the north west and south west corners of the ground 12-15m closer to the action and removing the "impossible kick" for goal from the pockets.
Other highlights include new player change rooms and viewing areas, a large spectator dining room, 45m long bar and an elevated outdoor spectator eating area with views over Adelaide Oval #2 and the nearby parklands.
The historic George Giffen Stand and heritage arches will be retained as part of the grandstand and a new western promenade.
Work will being on March 10 – following the Redbacks final Sheffield Shield match of the season against Tasmania – and is scheduled to be completed by November 2010, in time for the Ashes Test series.
The oval's capacity will be reduced to about 16,000 during construction.
For the full story, see tomorrow's Advertiser.

if you open the link it will have a video in there it shows what the front will look like

West Indies and Pakistan. As for playing matches at AAMI Stadium depends on th redevelopments I suppose but if teh traditionalists have their way it wont happen. Though they have played Domestic One Day Game at Football Park there though back in the 80s

Well yeah they would get that many for sure.

It wouldn't hurt as a one off. Just like when the MCG was being revamped for the Commonwealth Games, they played the Melbourne ODIs that season at the Telstra Dome but the Boxing Day Test was still at the MCG. So mayeb it could follow that pattern.

I hope it doesn't end up a soulless concrete monstrosity like the Gabba.

Well I've seen the artist's impression. I has a look of Lords about it except you don't have the space age looking media centre at one end.

Wanting some advice on seating.

I want to go to Adelaide in December for the 3rd test. I've never been before. Want to see days 1-3. Anyone with information on the stands? Best for the view, cover from the sun, drinks etc.

Pre-sale starts June 3rd.

Havent been in recent years with the new development

Buy have been a couple of times prior

Being a day test, you will get cooked (we were for a one dayer that started a 2pm) if your in the eastern stands (or chappelli stands) unless your fairly high up with roof cover. Plus it is side view of the cricket (pitch length) . So something half way up at least in the Western stand to avoid the sun for most of the day would be the go, if you dont mind side view

IMO for best seats if I was going (Im comparing it to SCG - Trumper stands). Behind bowlers arm in the Southern stand high up would be brilliant. They probably be most expensive but worth it. Be interested to know the ticket pricing for these. Trumper Stands is over $170 these days for a day of test cricket . The other end is the grass hill, a good experience but you get the sun all day and the natives

Best catering from any ground ive been to. At the lunch break have a stroll around the back of the ground, Ton of different cuisines and refreshments, and a good bar plus a large out door seating areas. Id say the new stands will also have drinks/food areas enclosed

Many thanks!

Yes in my head I was budgeting $150 a day for a ticket. Just to get a decent seat and some shade cover if possible. No information on prices yet as CA are still trying to flog travel packages which aren't up my alley.

Nothing against the hill but its test cricket. That much time in the sun will inhibit how much beer I can get through.
