Adelaide Rams

I think it was against the Rams where Mark Geyer went mad, he got cited twice and got a big suspension. I could be wrong but I think it was twice in about 2 minutes. Nearly took someones head off. Every time his name was mentioned for the Reds it was for the wrong reasons.

I think there was a game against the Sharks where he abused one of the fans at Shark Park.

I know he says on these shows he regrets his behaviour and was ready to retire after the Reds were kicked out.

Not sure if he's still that person off the field now. I know when he blew up about the Willie Mason thing in 2004, people called him a hypocrite then.

It was during 1997, when the local rl scene was dying out, the reds come up with an idea to send players to local junior matches to create good publicity and what not. Our club was lucky enough to get MG. He rocked up to junior rugby, either Saturday or sunday morning, drunk and made the club rope of a little area for him so he and his mates didn't have to mingle with anyone. He then spent the next few hours heckling the players on the field. Him and his mates were calling kids useless and hopeless whenever they made a mistake or missed a tackle. Laughing and telling his mates how hopeless these perth people are. Went on for hours and everybody at the club were in shock over it. On the way out of the ground we drove past MG in the parking lot, and my Mother being the fiery type yelled out ' you're a merkin of a bloke Geyer, super league deserve people like you'. He chased after our car picking a plank of wood up on the way, and when he caught up he started smashing our car up with the plank (was an old beat up HQ anyway)
He then went to my mother's window trying to throw punches and grab her, but she maced him and was able to drive off. In the paper the next day MG had a big sob story about how a car full of men tried to attack him (me, mum and my 3 siblings, all im primary school at the time) and how he has asked the club to provide him with a body guard. Nowdays MG is a moral crusader for getting players kicked out of the game for misbehavior, can't help but think what a massive hypocrit he is

Perhaps do what that guy did in the TAB Commercial next time you drive past him, except do the complete opposition.

Was it the Rams who got their first win whilst running backwards against Saints?

Don't think it was their first win but a big upset. From memory it was Iro running backwards to kill the clock, I recall massive whinging from the dragons for the next few weeks, was actually more butthurt about this incident then there was with the recent storm try after the game was meant to be finished

Watching a Panthers V Rams game from 1998. No wonder the Rams didn't last long, Penrith have 30 on the board at halftime while not even trying

Bring back the Rams!

Don't make a point of going head to head with the AFL and AFL people will get behind the team. There is a growing curiosity for rugby league in the town and with SOO coming in 2020, it will continue to grow.

That 54-18 win was the only one out of 4 meetings for Penrith. The Rams won both matches in 1997 and then won again later in 1998 at Adelaide Oval.

I remeber at the end of the 1998 season the rams released a new jersey for 1999 and about a week later they got the news they are getting axed.

I vaguely remember the kit.

It’s good that the Roosters have committed to Adelaide. The game there last year was a cracker and the crowd was something like 25,000. The Origin game in 2020 could really lift Rugby League’s profile in South Australia like playing Origin games in Melbourne in the 90’s.

Would be nice to see Adelaide get a franchise that isn’t news limited manafactured rubbish. The Rams were just there to make up SL numbers and didn’t add much value. There would be challenges establishing a club in Adelaide though.

If GWS or Gold Coast can be remotely successful in the AFL, an Adelaide NRL team would be fine.
As i mentioned earlier, don't make the town feel like they're going head to head with the AFL and Adelaide will get behind them.

Be nice to see Adelaide get a team and Perth dip out, just for perth_tampons benefit.

Honestly that’s the key. Stop comparing apples with oranges in the southern states.

Do the AFL waste time whining that more people like the Broncos than the Lions? No. Because they know the exposure and building a small fanbase is important in its own right.
