AFC Wild Card Playoff picture

Is looking very interesting....

After the Chargers win today, you would think that they have clinched the AFC West leaving the donkeys in a dog fight for the last Wild Card spot...

The Jets at 9-3 are probably going to secure one wild card, but the other one will be fought out by the following teams;

Denver (7-5)
Baltimore (7-5)
Jacksonville (6-5) hopefully on their way to losing against the Steelers... 8)
Buffalo (6-6)
Cincinatti (6-6)

Although a playoff spot is still unlikely for the Bills, I am pleased after a 1-5 start that they still have an outside shot this year....

Their last 4 games are balanced with two seemingly easy wins against 49ers and Browns, and tough games at Cincinatti and the Steelers at home in Week 17.....

If they can win the four I think they will make it .....unlikely but you never know...

Denver and Jacksonville ( if they win today ) are in the box seat though, looking at their remaining schedules....

How does the wildcard system work??
Is it the next two highest ranked teams in each conference after the division winners are selected for the playoffs??

Thanks??

It's the next two highest rank teams full stop. Denver are on the downward spiral just like Baltimore and with losses to AFC teams like Jacksonville, Cincinatti, San Diego and Oakland, they will need to win pretty much every game until the end of the season and they will draw eitehr Pittsburgh or New Englnd in the first round.

Pittsburgh and New England will have the first round bye in the playoffs ( unless something unlikely happens and one of these teams has a losing streak top end the season...)

The two Wild cards will play away at the Colts and Chargers ...

Thats why its going to be tough for the Colts to get through...they would firstly have to beat the Wild card team, then have to beat New England and Pittsburgh away from home in out door stadiums in January....

A tough ask....

Denver is still looking goodto be the last wild card team...they can afford another loss IMO so they need to win three from these four....Miami, at KC, at Tennesee and the Colts....

Its likely that heading into that last game versus the Colts, you may find that Manning,Harrison and Stokely may be rested as the result of that game will be meaningless for the Colts...

I forgot about the first round byes. Anyway, after Plummer's four int's yesterday, my hopes off a decent post season are slim to none. :(

My vote is still with the Bungles. I doubt they'll do it but I would love to see them in the playoffs.
