Well, I must say, West Coast have still done nothing to impress me and convince me they should be wild favs for the title. I still think under the pressure of finals football they will crack.

Well done to both sides though for putting on an entertaining match in the face of a terrible all round umpiring performance.

Kev, tell me you wouldn't kill to have Thompson standing in the forward fifty at the moment?

Agreed.

Yes, but he would still remain a fragile and short term option. He left us as a 28 year old key forward averaging 2 goals a game and he remains that now, balancing out an average earlier section of the season with the sort of purple patch that he's always been adept at.

On early form Lewis will give great value for a good dozen years+ and that's without any bonus that Matthew Little may or may not provide. Thompson will help make the Kangaroos competitive and nothing more, essentially keeping them a little longer in the frustrating holding pattern between serious flag competitor and genuinely rebuilding washout.

I always knew the best we could hope for was to break even short-to-medium term on that deal, and it doesn't surprise me to find us behind to this point. Hawthorn will almost certainly come out ahead in the medium to long term though.

Well, I sat down and watched the Essendon vs Richmond clash this afternoon and found it enjoyable, despite the low standard of the game. To be fair, the weather conditions didn't exactly help matters.

On the Tigers... A pair of crucial wins over the past fortnight to keep the side on finals pace, although they do have 3 tough games in 4 over the next month. The win was well deserved today, with the side being very disciplined and, on the whole, only too willing to do the important team orientated things. Very steady across the afternoon. The Tigers are neither hugely talented nor overly skilled as a group, but they keep things fairly simple and seem to get near maximum return for effort.

Richo was fabulous in the first half again this week and towered over the embattled Bomber defence. He looked a bit rough around the edges late in the game, however, and Tiger fans must be keeping fingers and toes crossed that he can stay on the paddock, as he is absolutely crucial to the side. I also thought Coughlan & Tuck gave good drive out of the centre and I can see why Wallace is so keen on talking Campbell out of retiring at season's end, as he was great all day. Thursfield did okay and looks quite Thurgoodish, although he does lack the strong by foot disposal of Josh. Will need a lot more experience and a good many weights sessions before he can be thought of as a genuine replacement for Gaspar, but has shown enough to suggest he could go on with it. Tambling didn't do a lot, but what he did do was very good, and the same could be said for Deledio. Both will be excellent footballers. Hyde has struggled since his injury, but showed encouraging signs today that he is on the way back. Simmonds is an ever mediocre forward player, but he is a more than capable ruck option and he did well around the park today also.

Much smarter and steadier on the day the Tigers, although they would still be concerned about the level of inside 50 ball the Bombers were able to generate despite being well beaten in the ruck. The Tiger defense worked bloody hard, but would not like to see that amount of forward possession for a side with sound multiple forward options.

Essendon certainly do not have multiple options and while Lloyd never stopped trying, they all too often looked lost inside forward 50. Another win will deprive them of a priority pick, but they desperately need it given the dearth of depth and quality they have around the forward line AND the midfield. This aside, I thought their ill-discipline in the opening half was appalling, and gave the Tigers a handy early leg-up that they really didn't need. Jason Johnson was great for them out of the middle, Rioli had a fair crack, Lloyd was generally good and Bradley could hold his head-up down back, but there wasn't a lot of positives to come out of this game for the Bombers. I've scarcely seen Hird play so poorly.

The Bombers definitely have the look of a side in a dire downward spiral (I know the look intimately) and I dare say its going to get plenty worse before it gets better.

The Bombers should have pensioned-off Sheeds when they had the chance. He's beginning to look as tired as the team.

Diving, Cheating, Rotten Scum.

I hate that club more than anything else I could ever possibly hate on this planet.

GO RICHMOND :)

Kev, have you seen the Port/Melb match? What on earth is wrong with the Dees???

:D I thought you'd get particular pleasure out of that result, young man!

Your capacity for spelling correctly suggests you're close enough to sober... What's going on there? :p

I'm stuffed if I can work out either side?! Port are looking fab one week and dismal the next, while Melbourne have fallen in a bloody great hole. A side with Melbourne's midfield and forward divisions should not be doing so badly and I still think they'll turn it around. It seems to be the sort of slump they had leading in to the finals last season, so at least they're getting it out of their system earlier this time around. Would want to stabilise matters sooner rather than later though, particularly given that their run home isn't exactly a dolly!

As much as I hate to admit it... Back BIGTIME!

Brisbane are without a doubt, comfortably the best side going around right now.

It never ceases to amuse me how Collingwood never learn from their constant thumpings against Brisbane. They're just never hard enough at the ball - Presti was the only one who had anything resembling a good night tonight.

Pfft.

Who have they played recently again? lol

  • Geelong @ Gabba - Geelong have been fantastic of late
  • Melbourne @ Gabba - Well, it's either great timing for a slump, or time to head to Buller for the members
  • Carlton @ Telstra - PFFFFFFFFFT lol Even Hawthorn could flog em
  • Collingwood @ Gabba - Mick has to be given credit, he has had that team playing at it's absoloute peak for a while now. A poor performance was due
Nonetheless. It should be an interesting game next week. West Coast are far from playing the wonderful football the media would have you beleive but have had the wood over Brisbane in recent times. Even knocking them over at the Gabba in Lions premiership seasons.

They showed Brissies upcoming month on the coverage last night, after next weeks game I would be very, very suprised if they don't win three in a row. Given they are only two games off second (officially one but the Crows have Hawthorn this afternoon, so should be in clear second by 6pm) Brisbane could easily finish top 4. I'd say in the lower rungs though. From there though, anthing can happen.

As much as we disagree about almost everything in football, my hatred of that football club and their coach is at least equal to your hatred of them ;-)

One more game to go now. If we beat Carlton again, even if we don't make the finals I will be a happy man. Will mean we have beaten Carlton, Collingwood & Essendon every time we played them.

I'd say we are almost there now. The Dogs/Hawks games are important. Should beat both teams but have struggled in recent years against both. Both have a real capacity to play really good games against Richmond and I certainly at this point would mark them down as only 50-50 games.

Next week is huge. If we can topple the Almighty Bandwagon ... We'll play finals.

You have to admit though Kev, Plough was a brilliant signing. From winning only 4 games last year, to 9 already this year. Richmond has improved out of sight under Terry.

I thought Tambo was good yesterday too by the way. Has not played much football but is getting more confident every week and his game is imporving every week. He'll be a sensational player for us. Deledio on the other hand, that kid is a star. He dead set makes finishing bottom last year worth it.

lol

Yep, only had two sips of a friends drink yesterday.

Given the damage I did to my hand last week .... I'm on a new drink-less lifestyle lol

& I must say I'm glad I did. The last time we beat that scum I was in Sydney watching in great pain on Fox Footy. I'm glad I was sober for it :) :)

Am i right when i say we have won EVERY game this year when Blings been in for us? (except pre-season)

He adds so much more pace and defensive pressure to our team, he might not get much of the ball, but its what he does when he doesnt have the ball that impresses me at the moment.....

Go Tiges!!! Pleeeease win next week!

Adelaide, outright second, you're having a laugh!

Talk about flattering. Hawthorn lost Franklin late in the week; Barker prior to the game; Sam Mitchell in the opening minutes; KPP Tim Boyle for the second half (how luckless is this young man); and near-BOG defender Campbell Brown for the final term (sensational courage again); had Everitt & Crawford playing poorly and still should be shot for giving up the four points!
eusa_doh.gif

For all its impediments, Hawthorn comfortably bested Adelaide in the opening and closing terms and squared them away in the second, but the club really needs to conduct a royal commission into the performance put up in the third... Horrendous!

That being said, we can only blame ourselves for not being 4 or 5 goals up at halftime. The umpires are dynamite on the dissension rule and to give Adelaide 4 goals (directly or indirectly) from 50m penalties as a result of backchat (no matter how innocuous) is poor discipline. Not surprising to see Peter Everitt the main culprit again!

Fruit me tingles! Losing Mitchell may be bad for the side, but its a killer blow to my dream team! Surging along and daring to dream of a virtual premiership and, just like that, its goodnight nurse. I can but hope that cameron Ling isn't out for a prolonged period also.

In conclusion, and for want of a more cutting and in-depth summation...

f**k a dark, I'm not too bloody well happy, Janice!

Again the match review panel have made a joke of themselves and pissed me off... Staff gets 2 weeks for a "jumper punch" fair enough..... if they are consistent (although the Sydney bloke should've gone aswell)

Then this week we see McVeigh land THREE punches on Chris Hyde and they class it as... wait for it.... WRESTLING so he only gets a fine...

Do they want us to hate them or something?
