Collingwood (Out of sorts, but generally play well against the Power);
Sydney (In too good a form to be worried by Geelong);
Adelaide (Have a great record against the tiring Hounds);
Hawthorn (Tight one, but the Hawks might have too much pace and enthusiasm);
Fremantle (Always tight games, but Freo are red hot at the moment);
West Coast (Eagles always beat the Lions & this could get ugly);
Richmond (Little in it, but if Fevola fails to fire, the Blues are no hope);
Melbourne (With little confidence as this is 50-50 for mine).
----------------------------------------------------------------------

There are a few very even games being played this weekend.

Brisbane vs West Coast is not one of them, however, with the Eagles a good thing for 'lock' of the year, never mind 'lock' of the round.

Freo vs Saints gets the nod for match of the round.

Collingwood exceptionally lucky last night.

Thank god they are all deluded enough to think they actually have a team that can win a premiership :lol:

Looking good for a 2/2 start to the round so far!

Two out of three ain't bad, Chookers M'lad.

Western have ensured that the remaining games will be dead rubbers, save for the jockeying for set positions in the final eight, downing Adelaide by 7 points in a ripper contest this afternoon. Its looking good for West Coast to pinch top spot in the run home now.

The Cats pulled a surprise at home, out grinding the Swans who blew a ripper opportunity to save some ground on the frontrunners and shore up a top four spot.

hoping it'll be 3/4 after tonight though ;-)

Im thinking that today was merely a glitch for the Crows, and they should hold on to top spot - but it'll be a race to the finish!

Phew!

Hawthorn home against the Bombers at the Dome to firmly exit the spoon race and now with a chance to exit the bottom four.

Hawthorn was well on top in the opening half, playing electrifying football, and really deserved to be 15+ goals up on the strength of play at the main break, rather than the 10 goal margin they went in with.

Predictably, Essendon ground their way back into the game, but now find themselves full-on in the spoon van.

Elsewhere the Dockers are smashing the Saints tocontinue their superb recent form.

& you laughed at me when I said they could win the premiership ...

Was there a decent percentage of Hawthorn supporters at the game last night Kev? I got off at Spencer St on my way to the Storm game and walked passed the masses heading towards TD ... I saw a grand total of 2 Hawthorn supporters amongst them, the rest were Scummers :?

Look at 'em come out of hiding after a win ;-)

LOL.

Given the choice of sides that are playing this finals series (and assuming that the Hounds & Demons can't win it), I'll be hoping Freo can perform a miracle.

In the short term, I'd be happy enough to see them give the Eagles a richly deserved coffee scrolling next week.

Hawthorn fans have always had a bizarre Dome Phobia.

This may be due to our poor record there, but this isn't the ground's fault, but rather its been due to the long dismal nature of our forward structure over recent years.

The small number who did turn up for the 'James Hird Appreciation Match' (Frankly, the Bombers deserved defeat for pulling this poncey stunt alone) would have seen strong signs of the tide starting to turn in this regard, with options opening up everywhere (Clarko will now hopefully heed my long standing call to leave Roughead at CHF) in the forward 50 in what was probably the best half of football Hawthorn has put in since about 1992.

Would have been worth travelling from Canberra to see, let alone the near Melbourne suburbs.

2 from 2 since I got Foxtel on, lets keep it going.

lol I wondered what was with all the James Hird banners lol

BTW, I meant the Bombers fans came out of hiding after the Collingwood game, not bagging the Hawks fans.

I was just amazed, usually, Hawthorn fans are as loyal as Richmond, I mean at least in recent times the Hawks have had it just as lean as we have, yet they usually get a strong base turnout.

Frankly, its pathetic that there is a considerable clump of Hawk fans who continually boycott the Dome. I wouldn't mind betting that it wouldn't be such a problematic venue if Hawthorn starting winning more games than it loses.

I much prefered the MCG myself (who wouldn't?), but when I was Ballarat based that never stopped me from attending Dome games. It galls me that people can be living in Melbourne and using a soft excuse to not be showing up and supporting the side.

As for the Hird issue. Fair enough he is one of the better footballers to have graced the game, but from listening to several Hawk players prior to the game, I think the club took it as a bit of a slight that Essendon was trying to overwhelm the contest with such nonsense when it wasn't a genuine milestone occasion. Unless the player is playing his 250th or 300th game; or breaking a club or AFL record; or definitely retiring you cheapen the notion of player celebrations.

I think it actually got the better of the player himself early on, but he lifted as the game went on, as you would expect. He had a running battle with Hodge at one stage, during which he lost his composure, but its not surprising that Essendon were begging him to go around another year. The bad news for Essendon is that they can't keep him playing until he's 40.

I watched a bit of the Melbourne vs Kangaroos game yesterday, and while the Roos did well early on, they will surely be fragile after the beating they took in the second half. We have to get them down to Tassie and make the most of this fragility come Saturday, methinks.

A good showing by Richmond yesterday, with the Tigers looking to finish off the season strongly by stringing a few wins together. Too strong for a Carlton side that struggles to fire if Fevola doesn't and now almost certainly has the wooden spoon sewn up. Richmond will get to have another big say in this on the weekend when it faces the other spoon aspirant, Essendon. The Tigers would love to put their old foe to the sword here and I strongly suspect that they will.

Elsewhere, West Coast comfortably smacked-up a struggling Brisbane to move a game clear at the top.
