WEST Coast Eagles captain and Brownlow medallist Ben Cousins has spoken to police after his car was found apparently abandoned on a Perth highway not far from a booze bus.

A Mercedes Benz was found stationary and without keys, but still with several passengers inside, on the Canning Highway in the upmarket Perth suburb of Applecross last Saturday night, police said.

Police were forced to call for assistance to remove the car, and further inquiries revealed the vehicle was leased to Cousins.

Accompanied by his lawyer, Cousins attended the police traffic headquarters at East Perth this morning.

It is understood no charges have been laid.

A spokesman for the West Coast Eagles AFL club said the club would not be making any comment on the matter, but Cousins was likely to be spoken to by club officials in the coming days.

Any comment should come from the police, or from Cousins' lawyer, the spokesman said

WE have drink driving laws for a VERY good reason.

It was definitely him because he has told the club that it was.

He told the police that he ran away from that he had wanted to go to the toilet (yeah right) and the club that he saw the bus and panicked.

There's only one reason why you'd run from a booze bus and it isn't because you have a sudden overwhelming need to tinkle.

Rightly or wrongly, as a captain of a club you have to set a form of social standard and Cousins has been found wanting several times on this score.

Who are you trying to kid. Of course it sound like him. Not surprised at all. Glad he has stood down from captain duties. He should have done that last year, you remember, the last time the police were investigating him. Atleast there were no guns invovled this time or pushing a team mate down the stairs.

I don't dispute any of that, perhaps I should have elaborated a bit more

he's not the only sports person to have a drink, get drunk, and do the wrong thing

sometimes being in a position that he is, there is a lot of pressure and alcohol is used as a release valve, not that I am condoning what he did

the bottom line is, he is there to play footy and what ever else he does off the filed doesnt' really bother me

last week Cousins, this week Sailor, next week some one else, I get bored with all these off field incidents, if it wasn't for AFL, we'd have never heard of Ben Cousins

Cousins charged by police

Former West Coast Eagles captain Ben Cousins has been charged by police after allegedly abandoning his car near a booze bus.

Police delivered a summons to Cousins' lawyer on Monday afternoon.

He will face a charge of obstructing the path of another driver and obstructing a public officer.

The alleged incident occurred in the early hours of February 12 on Canning Highway in Perth.

Cousins will face the Perth Magistrates Court on March 21 and if convicted he can expect a heavy fine or at worst 18 months in jail.

Another man has been charged over the same incident.

He is accused of giving police false information about the incident.

Cousins stepped down from the West Coast captaincy last week after the incident became public.

His replacement is expected to be named this week.

I guess I now know why you don't post at MWSE forum anymore. You've taken up supporting AFL. :p
