It's true not many of them know about the two different codes of rugby, but by the same token I haven't met an Aussie who had ever heard there was a different code of gridiron in the CFL either...

I don't bring up the CFL much here because I assume no one here can watch it. It is quite a good level of football though. It's not the NFL, but it's rules and field size are different enough that a different type of player can thrive in Canadian football - such as smaller but more mobile linemen, running quarterbacks (although those are becoming more common in the NFL). The CFL is also more on the scale of the NRL in terms of finances, crowd size.

Am I right in assuming that the CFL is never on TV down under? Has anyone here ever seen a game?

It used to be shown on cable. Was shown on C7 before the channel closed down.

Quite good. Prefer it to NFL

That was the XFL that was on C7, not the CFL. The XFL was Vince McMahon's pathetic attempt at a football league.

Union.

AFL bores me too much and NFL is, I think, to tactical. It doesn't look like fun to play, and it goes too long.

I went and watched my mate play last weekend. The game started at 7 and finished at 10:15. #-o

I've never seen it, but out of the Aussie I know who like NFL they actually say the CFL has better rules and is more interesting to watch... (they both went on a working holiday visa's to Canada about 3 years ago).

CFL is a cheap rip off of the NFL, the Americans all laugh at it

Not so. That's like saying league is a cheap ripoff of union. The CFL has a long tradition, and Canadian football developed independently of the US game.

Many Americans respect the CFL, especially when CFL players like Warren Moon, Jeff Garcia, and Doug Flutie go to the NFL and do well.

The rules are significantly different, enough to make the CFL more interesting and wide-open in some fans minds ( though lots of Canadians prefer the NFL). Probably not as different as union and league though.

I like NFL, mainly due to Madden gaming. I'd love EA to make a League game like they do Madden it'd be everything I need to quit work and never leave home ;-)

I get NFL taped for me off fox then fast forward all the stoppages so it's not a bad game to watch at all. Wish SBS or someone would still do the once a week 1 hour wrap show, like Don Lane used to, so we could see it on Free to air

Hate Union more than I hate the Roosters, which is a bloody lot. Lukewarm on AFL, don't really like seeing it on TV so much, but can enjoy the odd game due to it's rampant violence

I reckon some HBs, and DBs from the NFL could make it in league as there are some great, fast powerful runners, and amazing athletes. Doubt any Leaguies could make it in NFL though, too much learning curve and culture. PLus NFL players don't EVER have to think for themselves as they have coaches in their ear 24x7

As my sig. says League is my one true love, all other codes have a lot of daylight to catch up on League for me

It's hypothetical, because NFL players wouldn't give up the money they make to try league. But if they did, there are dozens of Wendell Sailor and Jonah Lomu types in the NFL, who could dominate league if they took a year or so to learn the game.
