I'm torn on this one.
On the one hand, I hate feeling obliged to pay extra regardless of the service. Isn't it the employer's job to pay an employee's salary?
On the other hand, Australian hospitality service (and customer service in general) is bloody woeful. A bunch of entitled, listless assholes for the most part. In the US, for all of its sins, you feel like an honoured guest because the person serving you knows their pay is directly affected by their ability to do a good job.
On that basis, I'm going to say disagree.
