Ryles may miss Super League season

By Steve Jancetic | February 23, 2009 12:00am

FORMER St George Illawarra prop Jason Ryles could miss the remainder of the Super League season after suffering a shoulder injury in his Catalans Dragons debut. Initially ruled out for three weeks after being forced from the field in the Dragons' 30-8 season-opening loss to Huddersfield over a week ago, it has now been revealed the 30-year-old could be out for as long as six months with suspected nerve damage. Ryles joined Catalans on a three-year deal at the start of this season.
"He has got to go back and have some more scans in a couple of weeks,'' Catalans coach and former Brisbane five-eighth Kevin Walters said. "It looks like nerve damage so he's out indefinitely. The worst-case scenario could be six months.''
Ryles has a history of shoulder trouble with the former Test front rower missing more than ten months of football in 2003-2004 after suffering nerve damage.

Despite the loss of Ryles and backrower Sebastien Raguin to long-term injuries, Catalans rebounded from their first-up loss to the Giants by coming from behind to beat Warrington 40-20 early Sunday morning Australian time.
Catalans' former Brisbane second rower Dane Carlaw was stretchered from the field after only eight minutes old when he was floored by a high tackle from Ben Westwood.
The match was held up for seven minutes as Carlaw was taken from the field, Walters later saying the rangy forward had appeared to have avoided a major injury.

Probably best to bite our tongues regarding this incident... considering we have signed a couple of very injury prone players in Weyman and Costigan. We need all the good karma we can get.

was hoping to see how ryles went last nite in their game on channel nine, now explains why he wasnt out there. Its a shame cause his season last year was outstanding. I guess bennett had some influence in his decision to go to England though.
