Happy with signing of Aitken.

We seem to be able to tie up who we want ATM. Makes me wonder if Widdop/Dugan have been told to look elsewhere (rather than "test" the market).

Dunno how I feel about that. Would like to see how they go under Hasler, Walters or whoever, especially Widdop, but would be an expensive test. Looks like it ain't on the cards though. Se la vi.

I think duges and inglis "punch" through but slater and RTS definitely "slice" through not "punch". Hayne "weaves" through. Simple really....
Okay. Call it a pie in the sky if you like but the bottom line is, they take on the opposition defensive line and go through it on a relatively regular basis. I don't think Mann can do this and I haven't seen him do it. Therefore IMO, if he can't make it in the halves, he shouldn't be resigned.
But the Old Dude tripping, talking about him (Mann) being the best back last season is without question false and not a matter of just my opinion.

Hey mate, they have definitely not been told to look elsewhere. Let's see what transpires a few weeks in...say 4-6 weeks.

You must have been asleep as your post has no foundation in fact.
Stupid Mary kept changing his position so obviously he was the go to man for whenever others didn't perform.
Mann is a gun and should be in the first 2 picked.
For the record if in your opinion Mann didn't excel then all the rest must be for the chop before him because he out performed everyone else in the team.

Girls, girls, you're both pretty.

I think Aitken and Host always wanted to play for the Saints.
In a way just as good as the news about Hunt.
It's good to see the dragon spirit is alive and kicking. We want our juniors in particular to get that attitude.
But it won't be until Mary goes and we have a coach that brings results.

Run a pole to see who reckons Mann isn't a 1st grader and see how you go with that.
Your post #101 over in the Jai Field for half back thread shows how little you know.

I believe dugan is our best back by a fair bit , he is a currant international. After that we have Atkin , Milne and Mann which are very good first graders and could possibly turn into possible state players . Field and Dufty are quality prospects and could be anything once they learn there trade. And I think the most exciting thing is we have a quality half back to steer them around next year.I hope we resign Milne Mann and Dugan very shortly as long as there asking price is reasonable.

Both Mann and Dugan are valuable for different reasons. The difference is Dugan will likely incur a hefty fee...So the more appropriate question imo is how much of the salary cap do we spend on each if they are retained...and I guess that depends on how important each respective player is to the overall success of the team...not necessarily whether they are an international or a fringe FG player...(not that I think Mann is a fringe FG player, nor do I think many on the forum think that either). I hop they keep both if they can, for different reasons, but if we could only keep one I'd keep Mann...I just think he offers more in attack..has more skill, more foresight, has a kicking game, can score tries...just my opinion

Glenn 01 writes, "So having said that, let's just agree to disagree." That is fair enough on the Forum but why accuse another Forum member of 'tripping'. Despite some divergent views here we do all purport to follow the same team! Over time you will note some frivolous views but they won't be coming from Old Timer who has watched a lot of footy, is very knowledgeable and expresses his thoughts rationally.

I certainly rate Mann highly. I think he has a touch of class about him which allows him to excel in a number of positions. I want to see him picked in the halves for Round 1. If he is left out I will be shattered but having said that I was shattered when Mary was confirmed as 2017 coach and when JD jumped ship. So it would not be a new experience for me.

my post #101 over in the Jai Field for half back thread? Now you are going from trippy to freaky.

I never said Mann isn't a first grader. I said as an outside back he is a fringe first grader and shouldn't be resigned. In the halves I have hope that he is much better. How about a poll asking if Mann was the best back for the Dragons last season, even better than Dugan. As you explicitly stated. How would that go?
