When a player refers someone to the game they get 50 flex points (which is the main currency of the game) and the only other way to get them is by buying them (like paying actual money).
Playing the game is free though, and it is pretty simple. you dont even have to be that into NFL to understand it. just know-ish the rules and stuff and you should be right. mind you it does take a while to get into.
