Sydney Roosters winger Amos Roberts has been released from the last year of his contract with the Bondi club, to take up a lucrative 4 year deal with English super league club Wigan.
The Roosters released Roberts to ease salary cap pressure and to help enable Amos to maximise his income potential towards the end of his career.
The 27 year old winger celebrated his 100th first grade try and 100th first grade goal during the 2008 season.
Roosters CEO Brian Canavan finalised the release earlier today.
By allowing him to take up the 4 year contract with Wigan, it has provided financial security for his young family and provides Amos with the opportunity to fulfil a life long dream of playing in England.
It also eases any pressure on the Roosters salary cap for 2009.
Amos Roberts played 88 first grade games for the Roosters scoring 54 tries.
I'm still trying to figure out whether this is good or bad news. I reckon we'll be signing someone too.. Shillington, Tupou, Roberts among others all gone surely there isn't any 'salary cap pressure'..
