Fitting that the man of the match Watmough should coin the most memorable off pitch quote.
I must admit that i was a bit taken aback by Cameron Smiths high ball but credit where its due,a fitting end to probably the best game of Origin i've watched in quite some time.Very brave of Gidley to take the ball and refuse an offload not that he had much time to think about it before being set upon.

Thought it was a bit cheap of queensland to pile in on Gidley like they did,i mean he has to be the most inoffensive nsw player bar josh morris but i suppose someone had to pay for the pricey debacle and the maroons were probably hoping white would bring the ball out

only thing is if Hodges and thurston connect they get sent and your down to 11, well actually Thurston would get away with it..

Yeah that's true...swinging arms aside I don't recall such immense pressure applied to the fullback.

agreed. it would even be different if it had happened more immediately, but as it was I thought it was cheap.

that stuff always looks especially cheap when it's clear the team has lost but they still wanna dig the boot in.

From a strategic point of view it really is a tactic that should really be used more.

The rarely mentioned tactic that underpinned St George's 11-year reign under the unlimited tackles era.

Most of us imagine that Saints wore down opponents by keeping possession and repeat bash-and-barge forward runs, then letting their backs loose.

In fact, they often did the opposite...Early in games Saints would keep kicking the ball back to their opponents, to let them have the ball! Saints would then proceed to belt and bruise them via their powerful and hard tackling forwards for as long as possible.

As the game wore on, sooner or later the toll finally told, and Saints' magic backline got the better against their opponent's tired defences.

The tactic doesn't really provide much benefit under the 6-tackles rule, though it appeared to me that Manly in '07 and '08 were using their defence to wear down opponents.

why didnt they just pass it straight to white if they wanted revenge

it was amusing to see how frustrated they were - they just couldnt think clearly

it may well be just the tactic nsw need

get kimmorley to keep spoiling people like hodges and watch them fall apart with tantrums

why did anyone have to pay, White backed off and gave Price the choice to let it go but he stepped up and got caught. It was cheap to emply that tactic and good courage from Gidley show when he could have easily just thrown teh ball dead. I actually thought QLD was just going to pass the ball to someone on teh blues team

The intent was to smash anyone in a blue jumper, the cowards talked up revenge all week, they had the perfect opportunity to do it, and they could not even throw a punch and do the job properly.

They've only got 2 players capable of throwing a punch,Crocker and Costigan,oh and that hit and run merchant Justin Hodges,he's the biggest coward out there, all mouth and no action.

I think the most remarkeable thing about the bomb was that QLD got a penalty out of it...Fkn hillarious really, considering all Creagh did was try and protect his team mate from what was a pathetic attempt to gain revenge for price.

I have no doubt every Blues fan here would be talking it up as the play of the century had the roles been reversed.

I loved the play personally...

When you can make a side do something so stupid and dumb, clearly you have not only defeated them on the scoreboard, but crushed them mentally as well

Yep

All talk, fourth man into the gidley tackle with a cheap shot

The guy is a cat of the highest order, willing to talk up a fight behind a referee then come in last with a cheap shot on a fullback.

lol Crocker being able to throw a punch is a myth and Costigan struggled to punch on with Eric Grothe.

White and Watmough would belt anyone in that QLD team, White's fists are clearly better than his football skills and Watmough just has to pretend the QLD players are Manly sponsors
