From FoxSports:
Sharks to sack coach today
By James Hooper
December 1, 2003
CRONULLA coach Chris Anderson is expected to have the final year of his contract terminated at a meeting with Sharks directors tonight.
The move will end two months of speculation about who will be head coach in the Shire in 2004 after relations between Anderson and the Sharks became strained before the Kangaroo tour.
Sharks directors have told Anderson to front the meeting with reasons why he should not be axed from the final year of his three-year deal.
The club has issued Anderson with three breach notices in the past three months and believe legally they have a strong argument.
The relationship between Anderson and the board originally became strained when the coach issued the club directors with a "sack me or back me" ultimatum after the Sharks failed to make the finals for the first time in five years.
Things went more sour when the club sacked Anderson's son Jarrad without warning.
Anderson reacted by sacking Sharks football manager Greg Pierce, son of club president Barry Pierce, from the Kangaroo tour.
The Sharks directors then served Anderson with a breach notice informing him he was not allowed to attend training until the issues were resolved.
But he has been allowed to talk to Sharks players, particularly Kangaroo tourists Brett Kimmorley and Phil Bailey, who are both staunch Anderson supporters.
The man who Anderson employed as his assistant before he left for England, Stuart Raper, has been controlling Sharks training.
Raper is now tipped to be named head coach once Anderson is shown the door.
Is it the best thing for the Sharks? No.
Anderson has implemented a new infrastructure at Cronulla during the past two seasons and should be allowed to finish the job he has started.
The Sharks missed the finals last season but Anderson has overwhelming support among the players and his coaching credentials speak for themselves.
The main reason high-profile players such as Kimmorley, Bailey, Nigel Vagana and Andrew Lomu have signed with the Sharks is because of Anderson.
Sadly the matter looks headed for the courts.
The Daily Telegraph
Have Vagana and Lomu come out and ever said they signed with the club because Anderson was the coach? :?
