If you think Matt Gidley has still got it, maybe you are watching the tapes on fast forward ;-)

Carmont is awful - he can not defend and starves his winger of ball. Matt Gidley is well past it - he is slow and defence has got worse than his already suss form of previous years. Kurt Gidley has not shown the form that got him an Origin spot since he made it to Origin and is keeping a clearly better 5/8 out of the team because he is Joey's mate. I don't think your tapes will show me any different.

His been carrying injuries for two years so I am not ready to condemn him yet, if his still in the same form this year with no injuries then its time to release him, his been a great servant to the club so lets not write him off yet.

If he goes sh*t in the first month of this year then hopefully he'll be sent to PL for the rest of his contract.

I'd like to give Gidley a chance to see what he offers pplaying inside Carney. If he can't give Carney a try a game i don't see any hope of him playing on in the first grade team. Carney is one of the best wingers in the world and pair him alongside on of the 'former' best centres in the world, should make a deadly combination. If he can't perform with one of the best wingers in the world outside him he has got no chance at first grade. However, with Hagan still the coach he won't be dropped.

As for Carmont, i wouldn't say he was awful at the end of the season because he playing above my expectations. In the final game against the Dragons he was running rings around his opposing man in the second half. His defence may be poor but you can place him alongside Johns and Joey should be able to direct him around.

The Newcastle Herald today rates Anderson next to no chance of getting the job due to his stormy relationships at other clubs. Daniel Anderson gets a mention, as does current Kiwi coach Brian McClennan. Now I find that last name very interesting?

When I first heard the name Anderson being mentioned for the coaching role I was adament that it should be Daniel and not Chris. The pro-anderson supporters in this thread have put some good arguements forward.

What concerns me is his ability to nuture junior talent. While I believe any coach can take an established team places (ie, Ricky Stuart at the Roosters) it takes an exceptional coach to identify and establish young players to a first grade standard (ie, Tim Sheens, Graham Murray).

While the pro-andersons are quick to point out that Joey won't play a flat style of play, who do we have to cover him when he's injured and what style or game plan in attack can Anderson develop for the covering player?

Under Anderson's coaching would Mullen become our Noddy? One shudders to contemplate it.

im for anderson. everyone keeps looking back at his only real bad time at the sharks. Well dont forget how (un)successful Sharp was at northern eagles etc and its now 100% bellamy is staying put in Melbourne. Anderson brings to the club more than any other contender can and will. I think its a benefit for the club and when joey is gone, having someone with his experience and ability to attract new signings of good calibre, well its a very optimistic future. I think Anderson has more credentials than sharp and i really really would hate to see him get the job. Anderson is out of town, highly professional, experienced, proven winning records, 2 premierships + more....his the man imo.

As we said, Anderson's penchant for flat attack is based entirely around having to coach Brett Kimmorley. There's no proof that he would force other halves to adopt it, just that he'd force a team with Kimmorley in it to do so.

As for Brian McLennenan, I'm not sure I'd want him there. Yes, he did coach New Zealand to a tri series win, but right now I think he's too unproven. No NRL coaching experience and just the one year at the helm of his national team. I'd like for him to have some more time before we throw money at him to control our club's future.

As for Anderson... I'm not overly stoked, but we could do a hell of a lot worse. I think a lot of what the anti-Anderson people are saying is unfounded. For example, he could never try to implement a flat-style attack while Joey was halfback. He didn't when he coached Johns at Oz level. However, he seesm to me to have a bit of trouble getting on with the bosses (A little like Warren Ryan). This is not what the Knights need in the second year (2007) of a new administrative set up.

As for McLennan... no thanks. If we wanted a coach with no NRL experience, we may as well just give Daisy a run.

I'm warming up to Anderson being our coach.. just concerned about any feuds that may occur with management.

Firstly, Matt Gidley will struggle to keep up with Carney. Secondly, if you think Matt Gidley was one of the best centres in the world, then your loyalty to the club is truly amazing.

Much of it is true though, He did cut alot of dead-wood, bar Cambell...
He made the hard choices.
He rewarded Juniors
He made players consistant by threat of being dropped...

Chris Andersons brain is still running on 1999 time. The game has changed alot since that time, yet he thinks what was successful then will work now. He is wrong and heshould not be considered IMO

I think what BIHK is refering to is the afforementioned outdated attacking plan that he seems to like. I have grave concerns about our success if he was to mess with God's style of play.
