HALFBACK Brett Kimmorley - the player savaged for his Test performance against New Zealand - was yesterday voted Australia's best player on the history-making Kangaroo tour of Great Britain and France.

Coach Chris Anderson yesterday gave his awards for the tour to The Daily Telegraph, including naming Kimmorley the finest performer of his 23-man squad which won the Test series against Great Britain 3-0 and also defeated Wales, England A and a French Selection XIII during the past seven weeks.

Darren Lockyer's wonderful captaincy also drew high praise from Anderson.

Best player

Brett Kimmorley: "Noddy just ran the show really well," Anderson said. "He played great in the first two Tests and the professionalism he showed to play wounded in the first Test and then get back out there for the second Test was amazing.

"He worked so hard and was the difference in the second Test."

Most improved

Craig Fitzgibbon and Luke Ricketson: "I can't split those two. They were the constants of our tour," Anderson said.

"When we needed solidarity, they were there."

Biggest future

Trent Waterhouse: "The world is his oyster when he gets home, as long as he heeds the lessons of this tour."

Best attitude

Shane Webcke: "He brings integrity to this level of football," Anderson said. "Shane set a fantastic example to everyone, especially his roommate Joel Clinton, on this tour. He also played with injury during the tour and set us a great base."

Tour highlight

Darren Lockyer's captaincy: "He put his hand up when we needed it," Anderson said.

"He did things only he could do." Most underrated player Michael De Vere: "He is a quiet, unassuming bloke - but he just goes about being a professional," Anderson said.

"He scored the vital try in the third Test and can now see himself as a bloke that doesn't just defend but one who can also make an impact in a game."

Best Emu (non-Test player)

Joel Clinton: "Joel has a huge future. He remained enthusiastic throughout the tour despite not being in the Test side," Anderson said.

"All the Penrith blokes brought enthusiasm to this squad. Joel got on great with all the players and he handled the disappointment of missing out on Test selection well, as did Luke Lewis."

Best opposition player

Keith Senior: "Senior played exceptionally well in the first two Tests," Anderson said. "He was no doubt Great Britain's most dangerous player. And I thought Paul Sculthorpe was probably the player with the most ability in their team."
