Thank god Stranger is the minority here...

The issue is that Carmont should be out rather than O'Davis being in. That I agree. But as for bring O'Davis back? Let it go mate...

I said last year that I'd welcome Robbie O'Davis back if we were struck with injuries again. The injuries we're seeing now are easily the most damaging in the club's history -- it would make sense, then, that I'd be calling for O'Davis return.

He would probably do better than most expect -- especially if he was put at fullback. Trouble is: we have two or three fullbacks, two of which are injured and the third plays there tonight. The other problem is: the selection-policy is very clear, Brad Tighe, Trent Salkeld and Michael Young are all not considered good enough.

If we're prepared to play Tighe, Salkeld, Young and Spiteri, and there is still room for Robbie, then I'd welcome him back temporarily. But there is no suggestion on my part that the blokes mentioned couldn't provide more for the team than O'Davis.

Firstly, why the hell would we want O'Davis in the centres when he is quite clearly a fullback?
He will struggle in the centres in defence. He never was the best head-on tackler, and he'll have to do plenty of it there, marking the big back-rowers on the fringes.
Robbie's reputation in defence was built on his cover-tackling, which he won't be able to do at centre.
Robbie is too slow to be a centre. Like it or not, his inability to break the line will not help us score any more tries. He is not agile anymore and he certainly doesn't have the size to bust tackles

I couldn't agree more.

O'davis in his prime was the real deal. These days he could really only offer experience.

Carmont and tighe are still early in there careers and are improving. Why have a 32 year old fullback that is well past his best play in the centres. He is way to small to be a centre. He is slower then most 2nd rowers and his front on defence isn't good enough to match it with hte other centres in the comp.

to be honest - i can see a time where potentially Dustin Cooper, Mark Hughes and George Carmont should be struggling to get first grade spots.

how's this for a backline:

1. David Seage
2. Anthony Quinn
3. Matt Gidley
4. Kurt Gidley
5. Milton Thaiday
6. Jarrod Mullen
7. Andrew Johns

that backline is pretty much available against the Broncos game if they choose to pick it - which they should...

yeah hagan should, but will he?

If history is a guide we'll have a poor backline and a forward back that has no support play.

Look how is bringing back a 32 year old moving forward?
The management has failed this club badly, questions need to be asked of the management.

Well it worked ok with Craig Smith. Its been HOS presebnce that has led the forwards by example like BK used to and still does with Manly.

We need experience - look at all the silly mistakes and dropped ball last night. Robbie O never drops the ball

After reading the article in the Herald on Saturday it sounded to me like it was Hagan's choice to get rid of O'Davis in the first place. If that was the case then their would have to be some humble pie being eaten before O'Davis gets a phone call, and I can't see that happening.

The Newcastle Herald today was full of letters wanting him back. It got the better of me so I sent this in.

Can we get over the "bring back Robbie" thing? He has been a great servant to the club, but surely people can see it's time for the club to make some drastic restructuring changes, and that doesn't include bringing back a star of the past. We are in trouble because of the lack of recruitment/forsight by the Knights over the years. Rather than bringing back someone of his age, we need to look forward. Robbie has had his day, it's time to move on. I mean why stop at Robbie? lets get Chief, and Butts to saddle up again. To all those that think Robbie will be free, think again, the NRL will put a value on him, and that would count against our already stretched cap. The future is out there, forget Robbie, what we really need is a fulltime recruitment officer to find it.
They just rang, it'll be in tomorrow or Thursdays Newcastle Herald. Bet I cop a few nasty replies LOL.

sometimes the truth hurts tony, people always want to look for quick fix solutions, and they arent always the best thing. Ive come to realise that maybe this season we should (but wont, for obvious reasons) start looking at our junior talent, because they are our future. Dan spiteri has been killing it all over the park in reggies (last week I noticed he was killing it at hooker) yet he still cant get a run... he would make a great utility back on the bench to cover for our horrendous injuries, but it wont happen

Changes need to be made, and going backwards is what got us into this horrific mess in the first place..... what i wouldnt kill for a time machine to go back 18 months or whenever it was that we signed Peden and all that Joey rubbish was going on, to tell Billy to dissappear and Joey to f**k off, maybe then we could have retained Ennis Tahu and BK, and hired a decent fitness co ordinator to boot

hindsight is a wonderful thing really
